I am utterly enamored with the captivating talent that is Carrie Coon. Her journey through the world of acting has been nothing short of inspiring, and her ability to breathe life into each character she plays is truly remarkable. From her gripping performances in HBO’s masterpieces like “The Leftovers” and “The Gilded Age,” to her upcoming roles in films such as “His Three Daughters” and “Lake George,” Carrie has proven time and again that she is a force to be reckoned with.
Following much anticipation among fans, it has been officially announced that the third season of HBO’s Emmy-winning series, “The White Lotus,” is set to debut in February 2025. Similar to its successful second season, this upcoming installment will introduce a fresh lineup of popular actors to complement the cast. Among these new additions is the exceptionally talented Carrie Coon, whose performances have left audiences spellbound in other HBO productions like “The Leftovers” and “The Gilded Age.” If her name isn’t already familiar, she’s the leading actress who has captured the spotlight in these notable HBO productions.
Coon remains ever busy, first with the recent release of her acclaimed Netflix film His Three Daughters, and now with the upcoming film, Lake George. She spoke with MovieWeb and weighed in on the upcoming season of The White Lotus as well, a show that was filming during the lead-up to Election Day 2024. Since Mike White’s landmark series is known for its piercing social commentary, Coon addressed whether Season 3 will take on any new significance with a whole new White House taking shape in the U.S. “There will be some surprises,” Coon told MovieWeb, adding:
Given Mike’s unique artistic nature, he naturally speaks to the present moment. I believe his work might resonate in some unexpected manners. Art, as it is being created, is always influenced by its time. Moreover, artists serve as custodians of history, and turbulent periods often birth exceptional art. So, it’s possible that some good may come from this situation, such as the success of ‘White Lotus’.
Coon noted as a disclaimer, “HBO is a premium channel, but I’m amazed at the number of people who watch it. It’s always great when art fosters shared experiences and discussions, which could mean bridging divides instead of focusing on labels. Personally, I hope for a free and fair election in four years.
Reuniting with Shea Whigham
During this period, viewers can take pleasure in Coon’s performance in “Lake George” alongside Shea Whigham (known for “Mission: Impossible”), who also appeared together as cops in Season 3 of “Fargo” on FX. In their latest film, directed by Jeffrey Reiner, there’s a similar moody atmosphere, yet this time their characters are clearly operating outside the law.
[Regarding my character from the show ‘Fargo,’ named Gloria Burgle] She seems quite distant from this [specific event or situation], and it’s unclear if she had an impact on it directly. However, she did indirectly affect it because that’s where I formed a strong friendship with Shea and we made a secret pact to work together again,” explained Coon further, stating:
“It was Shea who brought this film to me. He and [director] Jeffrey had been kind of trying to get it up and running for a couple of years, and so when they finally got the money and brought it to me, it was so thrilling to A) be offered a lead, and B) to play such a, you know, unpredictable person
whose energy is actually much, much closer to mine than anything I’ve ever played
. And I love Shea.”
On December 6, 2024, the films Lake George will hit both cinemas and digital platforms, distributed by Magnolia Pictures and Magnet Releasing.
