Carrie Underwood Talks Replacing Katy Perry on ‘American Idol,’ Teases What Audiences Can Expect From Her as a Judge

As a long-time fan of Carrie Underwood and American Idol, I couldn’t be more thrilled about her return to the show as a judge! With eight Grammy Awards, multiple ACM and CMA awards, and a successful career spanning over a decade, Underwood brings an unparalleled level of experience and versatility to the table.

Carrie Underwood is ready to take a seat at the American Idol judges’ table.

The title-winning country musician and American Idol champion from 2005 recently talked about potentially taking over Katy Perry’s role as a judge. Earlier in the year, Katy Perry unexpectedly announced that she wouldn’t return for the 22nd season after serving for seven seasons.

Underwood’s return to Idol as a judge was formally announced on Good Morning America.

In a chat for the “Music Row Happy Hour” special on The Highway in Las Vegas, Underwood discussed her fresh judging position and hinted at what viewers might anticipate from her.

“Carrie Underwood expressed gratitude for being deeply connected to country music, yet she’s also had the opportunity to collaborate with various music genres. Currently, she has a track with Papa Roach and finds it quite enjoyable.”

“She mentioned that she considers herself adaptable, meaning she can adjust her perspective depending on the kind of music being presented during auditions.”

As a devoted admirer, I can tell you that when it comes to her approach, she’s all about being “open yet supportive” in sharing her insights.

She explained, “That’s exactly the purpose, since individuals are joining and they’re essentially entering someone else’s dream from that moment. I believe it’s crucial to be truthful, yet compassionate, so I aim to combine both qualities and serve as a considerate judge.”

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that Carrie Underwood has made history by becoming the first “Idol” alum to grace the judges’ panel! After her triumphant win in the fourth season of this beloved competition series, she’s gone on to have an extraordinary career. With eight Grammy Awards and a combined total of 25 Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association awards under her belt, she’s truly a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. Her success is evident in the fact that no less than eight of her albums (including a greatest hits compilation) have ruled the U.S. country charts, with four even reaching the coveted No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200.

As a thrilled fan, I’m excited to share that I will be part of the esteemed panel alongside returning judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan for the upcoming season of American Idol. Ryan Seacrest is also back on board to host this iconic show. The 23rd season of American Idol is set to make its grand return in early 2025!
