‘Carry-On’ Is on Track for Netflix’s All-Time Top 10 Movie List

As a long-time Netflix subscriber and movie enthusiast, I must say that the success of Carry-On is nothing short of exhilarating! With its gripping plot, star-studded cast, and fast-paced action, it’s no wonder viewers worldwide are hooked. The film’s impressive viewership numbers in just 10 days have set the stage for a potential top spot in Netflix’s all-time English-language original movies.

Among Netflix’s final original film releases in 2024, there’s a strong possibility that this particular production could become one of their most significant ones, not merely within the year itself but potentially among all their offerings.

In the opening ten days since its debut, the action-packed thriller “Carry-On”, featuring Taron Egerton, Jason Bateman, and Sofia Carson, has garnered impressive viewership numbers across the globe, as per Netflix’s internal data. Between December 13th and December 22nd, the film clocked an estimated 97.1 million views worldwide (calculated by total viewing hours divided by its two-hour duration). The movie has topped Netflix’s charts for English-language films in both weeks since its release; further viewership figures for this week will be released on December 31st.

In the film titled “Carry-On,” directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, and scripted by T.J. Fixman, we follow the story of a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agent (played by Egerton). This character is coerced into letting a bag filled with a lethal nerve agent onto an airplane. Bateman assumes the role of the mercenary masterminding this plot.

In just ten days, “Carry-On” has amassed approximately 97.1 million views, placing it on course to enter the top 10 English-language original movies on Netflix within the next couple of weeks. At the moment, “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” holds the 10th spot with a total of 136.3 million views; as things stand, “Carry-On” has already surpassed over 70% of that figure. To make it onto Netflix’s all-time top 10 lists, a movie or series must accumulate its view count within the first 91 days of release.

Netflix original films often experience substantial drops in viewership during their third week. For instance, “Damsel,” which is currently ranked among the all-time top 10 with 50.8 million views in its second week, saw a decline to 19.5 million views in its third week, representing approximately a 62% decrease. Even if “Carry-On” follows a similar trend, it would still accumulate around 21 million more views this week, potentially placing it on the cusp of the top 10.

The most successful Netflix original film so far has been “Red Notice,” which garnered approximately 230.9 million views within a span of 91 days.
