Cat Glover, Singer and Dancer Who Worked With Prince, Dies at 60

As a fan who grew up dancing to the rhythm of Prince’s music and Cat Glover‘s electrifying moves, it is with a heavy heart that I bid farewell to this extraordinary artist. Born and bred in the Windy City, Cat Glover was not just a dancer or choreographer; she was a beacon of inspiration for countless young artists like me.

60-year-old Cat Glover, a versatile artist known for her singing, dancing, and choreography, passed away. Notably, she collaborated with the iconic musician Prince during his peak in the late ’80s.

The unfortunate news about the demise of Catherine Vernice Glover, also known as ‘Cat’, was shared on her official Facebook page. A brief message read: “We regretfully confirm the passing of Cat. During this challenging time, let’s respect her children, family, and friends by granting them privacy.” The cause of death was not disclosed.

Glover has a close connection with Prince, having collaborated on multiple projects with the deceased artist. These projects span across albums such as “Sign o’ the Times” and “Lovesexy”, as well as their accompanying music videos, concert films, and tours. Notably, she delivered the rap for Prince’s hit single “Alphabet St.

Catherine Vernice Glover, born on the 23rd of July, 1964, in Chicago, Illinois, was one among six siblings. Her educational journey took place at Esmond Elementary and Morgan Park High Schools. Dancing captivated her interest from the tender age of five, eventually turning into a profound lifelong pursuit. Prince was another passion that ignited within her, inspiring her to make it her life’s mission to meet this iconic singer.

I discovered Prince following his album, ‘Dirty Mind.’ At the time, I was residing independently on the North Side of Chicago. The only thing that helped me cope with my depression was by immersing myself in Prince’s ‘Dirty Mind’ album. I felt an irresistible urge to meet him personally, a conversation between my thoughts and desires.

Aiming to catch Prince’s eye, Glover found her chance as a dancer on the talent show ‘Star Search’, which was back then hosted by Ed McMahon. Partnered with Patrick Allen, they formed a dance duo called Pat and Cat. With their energetic performances, they won over the crowd on ‘Star Search’. The duo won seven out of eight times, even scoring perfect marks twice, but unfortunately lost in the finals and missed out on the $100,000 prize.

Her victory on Star Search boosted Glover’s popularity as a dancer, leading to offers from artists like David Bowie. However, it was her idol, Prince, who also expressed interest in working with her. Consequently, she joined Prince’s band in December of 1986.

Under Prince’s tutelage, Glover soared to the pinnacle of her dance career. She collaborated with him on choreography and performances for the 1987 concert film “Sign o’ the Times“, which was adapted from the album of the same title. In this production, she took on roles as a dancer and backup vocalist. During the Lovesexy Tour in 1988, she also shone as a performer. Moreover, she delivered the rap for the popular single “Alphabet St.” from the album.

In 1989, she parted ways with Prince’s band and ventured off independently. That year, Glover put out the EP titled “Catwoman“, which marked her sole released music to date.

In her later life, Glover dedicated much of her time to dancing and creating choreography. She also collaborated briefly with Prince in 1994 for the album “The Black Album“, contributing the rap verse to the track “Cindy C.
