Cathy Repola to Retire As National Executive Director of Motion Editors Guild

As a seasoned gamer with over three decades of immersion in the intricate world of digital entertainment, Cathy Repola’s retirement announcement has left me both awestruck and a tad melancholic. This woman has been my silent guide, navigating the treacherous waters of the Motion Picture Editors Guild (the guild) with unwavering dedication and courage that can only be compared to an epic hero’s quest in a grand RPG.

Cathy Repola is set to step down from her position as the national executive director of the Motion Picture Editors Guild by the close of January 2025.

Repola has spent 32 years working with the Editors Guild, IATSE Local 700, and has held the role of national executive director since 2016. A team will be assembled to find a replacement for this position.

“Repola shared that working with the Guild has been immensely fulfilling throughout her career. Her dedication to the organization and its goals, as well as her personal connection with our members, has always run deep. At this stage in her life, she wishes to redirect her focus towards her dear ones and friends.”

“For the past eight years, I’ve been the cornerstone of our gaming guild, Cathy. I’ve navigated us through some of the toughest contract negotiations and trickiest situations with a level of courage and grace that’s truly admirable. The person taking over from me will have a tough act to follow, as they’ll be stepping into some big shoes.” – Guild President Alan Heim, ACE.

As a gaming aficionado, I’m part of an alliance, roughly 9,000 strong, of behind-the-scenes masters in the realm of video production. We hail from the creative hubs of Los Angeles and New York, and we’re the picture editors, sound editors, mixers, and other wizards who magically transform raw footage into cinematic masterpieces you enjoy watching.
