CBS News Names Tom Cibrowski President and Executive Editor

CBS News appoints Tom Cibrowski as President and Editor-in-Chief, selecting an experienced professional from ABC News to oversee their news department during a crucial period.

As I sit here, gaming away, I got some exciting news to share from the world outside my controller. Wendy McMahon, the big boss at CBS News and Television Stations and CBS Media Ventures, just announced they’ve hired a new guy named Cibrowski. This announcement dropped this very morning!

Now, you might be wondering who’s filling the shoes of the former president of newsgathering at CBS News, Adrienne Roark. Well, that spot is now held by our new buddy, Cibrowski. It turns out, Adrienne moved on to a new adventure with Tegna earlier this month.

So yeah, gaming’s been great, but I’m pumped about this latest development in the news world!

While Roark handled news gathering and editorial aspects, McMahon supervised certain programs. In contrast, Cibrowski is set to manage all CBS News shows, in addition to overseeing both news gathering and reporting teams.

In a memo to the team, McMahon highlighted that Tom has spent approximately three decades working in broadcast journalism, some of which was right here at CBS where he was a producer for The Early Show. What sets him apart is his comprehensive grasp of the news environment, and his dedication to reporting stories with significance, honesty, and impartiality.

For a quarter of a century, Cibrowski has been associated with ABC News, holding various positions such as the executive producer of “Good Morning America.” During his tenure, he presided over this program when it surpassed NBC’s “Today” in television ratings.

According to Cibrowski, CBS News excels at journalism and storytelling more than anyone else. In his statement, he expressed immense joy about coming back to this esteemed and exceptional institution. He’s eagerly looking forward to getting started right away.

At a particularly stormy period for the CBS brand, he is set to join. The current owner, Paramount, is in the process of being sold to Skydance, with the Federal Communications Commission scrutinizing a 60 Minutes interview featuring former Vice President Kamala Harris due to claims of “news distortion” regarding its editing. Previously, President Trump had filed a lawsuit concerning this issue, and there have been discussions about settlements, which CBS News staff find troubling as they view the accusations as unfounded.

CBS recently made a switch on their prime-time show, CBS Evening News, as Norah O’Donnell moved away from her anchor position to make room for Maurice DuBois and John Dickerson. However, this change has not resulted in improved ratings, as they are currently lower compared to last year.
