The upcoming film directed by Celine Song, who previously worked on “Past Lives,” featuring stars like Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal, is scheduled to hit theaters on June 13th.
A24 officially announced the release date for “Materialists” on the 13th of June, 2025. The caption read, “Mark your calendars. ‘Materialists’ by Celine Song, 6.13.2025.” Alongside the announcement was a picture featuring a cake shaped like the show logo, resembling a heart.
In the heart of bustling New York City, a romantic comedy unfolds around a young matchmaker named Johnson. She finds herself in a dilemma, caught between her ideal partner and an old flame who isn’t quite perfect. Supporting roles are played by Zoe Winters, Marin Ireland, Dasha Nekrasova from ‘Succession’, and Louisa Jacobson.
In this rephrased version, the focus is maintained on the main plot while providing a more descriptive context for the setting and characters involved in the story.
The main filming for “Materialists” started on April 29, 2024, in New York and ended in June of the same year. Killer Films’ Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler, along with David Hinojosa from 2AM, are producers for this project.
In 2023, Song’s “Past Lives,” a film produced by A24 and featuring Greta Lee and Teo Yoo, was warmly received by critics and garnered significant recognition, earning nominations for two Oscars, notably for the category of best picture.
In a 2023 interview, Song, named The Hollywood Reporter’s Young Filmmaker of the Year, remarked, “I hadn’t realized I knew how to create a film until I was in the process. And once I started, I suddenly thought, ‘Wow, I’m going to keep doing this right up until I’m gone.’
In their upcoming project, Johnson, previously seen in Sony’s ‘Madame Web’, will team up with ‘Avengers’ star Evans and Pascal, who starred in ‘Gladiator II’.
