As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for both music and movies, I am genuinely thrilled about the upcoming EDM-centric film, “Strobe.” Having grown up during the 2010s dance music boom, I’ve seen firsthand how EDM has transformed from a niche genre to mainstream stardom. With an impressive cast that includes Suzanna Son, Chace Crawford, and Laura Harrier, this thriller promises to deliver a unique blend of mystery, drama, and pulsating beats.
EDM is set to get another movie moment with the forthcoming feature Strobe.
Suzanna Son, known for “Red Rocket”, Chace Crawford from “The Boys”, Grace Van Dien of “Stranger Things” and Laura Harrier, who appeared in “Spider-Man: Homecoming”, are featured in writer-director Taylor Cohen’s latest film. Titled “Strobe”, the movie is produced by Happy Place and Super Frog and has recently completed production. This upcoming thriller revolves around a high school senior character played by Suzanna Son, who becomes fixated on finding a enigmatic EDM artist.
Rohan Campbell, known for “The Monkey”, Suraj Sharma from “Life of Pi”, Steve Howey of “True Lies”, Bella Murphy in “Coming 2 America” and rapper Matt Champion complete the cast lineup. Tara Razavi (recognized by Apple Music’s “Up Next”), Nate Matteson (“The Bear”) and Hiro Murai (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”) are the producers, with Happy Place funding the project together with executive producer Clayton Moore.
Currently seeking distribution, Strobe marks the first feature for Happy Place.
We’re thrilled to see Strobe come to life as Taylor Cohen’s debut feature film, according to Razavi, founder of Happy Place. Suzanna Son was an ideal choice for the lead role, and we feel fortunate to have her on board. For years, Taylor has been a valuable collaborator in our short-form projects, showcasing his exceptional talent for creating visually stunning and emotionally impactful stories. Now, he’s channeling that same innovative spirit and style into Strobe, which, combined with Suzanna’s and the cast’s impressive performances, promises a cinematic experience that will truly captivate audiences.
In recent years, Electronic Dance Music (EDM), the popular club music that gained widespread recognition in the 2010s, has been a recurring theme in films. Notable examples include “We Are Your Friends,” a movie headlined by Zac Efron, and “XOXO” on Netflix, which stars Sarah Hyland.
As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to witness Cohen stepping into the realm of feature film directing for the first time with “Strobe”. Previously, he’s been behind the scenes, crafting music videos for musical powerhouses like Billie Eilish, Nicki Minaj, Megan Thee Stallion, and Conan Gray.
The filmmaker is represented by Range Media Partners and Jackoway Austen.
