Chad Michael Murray Wants The 'One Tree Hill' Sequel To Happen

As a cinephile who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of television, I can wholeheartedly say that Chad Michael Murray‘s enthusiasm for a One Tree Hill sequel series is nothing short of heartwarming. Having grown up with this iconic show and its unforgettable characters, it brings me immense joy to see the actors who made these stories come alive expressing such gratitude towards their dedicated fanbase.

Chad Michael Murray expresses his enthusiasm for a possible revival of the beloved series “One Tree Hill”. The actor, who was part of the CW show until its sixth season, has voiced his hope that a new installment will materialize, considering the loyal fanbase of the show. It was revealed in August that there are plans to continue “One Tree Hill”, with Hilarie Burton and Sophia Bush confirmed to reprise their roles.

However, in a chat with Deadline, Murray expressed his joy about the series, regardless of its shape or the mix of old and new characters it ultimately takes.

It’s my hope that we’ll see another version of this beloved series return, as it holds a special connection for fans worldwide. I truly wish for their enjoyment if any new installment emerges.

In August, Bush and Burton (known for their podcast, “Drama Queens,” based on the TV show One Tree Hill) had a conversation about their involvement in the upcoming Netflix reboot. They will not only return to their characters Peyton and Brooke, but also take on executive producer roles, alongside Danneel Ackles, who was then in negotiations to resurrect her role as Rachel Scott.

It appeared doubtful that Murray would be back in the series when its plans were unveiled, as Deadline reported that he had no intention of coming back for the sequel. Since then, he’s kept quiet about the possibility of his return.

The TV show “One Tree Hill” first aired in 2003 on what was then known as the WB (later changed to the CW). It swiftly garnered a large audience. During its nine-season run, it managed to keep a faithful fanbase. Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty, Bethany Joy Lenz, Bush, and Lee Norris were among the stars of this teen drama series. The story revolved around the intricate bond between half brothers Lucas (played by Murray) and Nathan Scott (Lafferty), along with their close companions. After its sixth season, both Murray and Burton departed from “One Tree Hill”. The show concluded their characters’ journey as they got married, had a daughter, and decided to leave Tree Hill, North Carolina.

During an interview with PEOPLE as he prepared to release his forthcoming Christmas movie, The Merry Gentlemen, Murray once more expressed warm sentiments towards the dedicated followers of One Tree Hill.

The success of ‘One Tree Hill’ is wholly owed to its fans. Whether we were on set or not, the show wouldn’t exist without them. It might have vanished long ago, but their unwavering support has kept it thriving and resonating with countless viewers even today.

He added:

It’s truly heartening to learn about the impact you’ve made on countless individuals worldwide through your professional endeavors. Sharing such profound experiences with these people is nothing short of an honor.

Although it’s uncertain if Murray will take on the role of Lucas Scott again, it’s confirmed that he will portray one of his beloved screen personas in the eagerly awaited “Freaky Friday” series featuring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. The highly anticipated “Freakier Friday” is scheduled to hit screens on August 8, 2025.

One Tree Hill, which concluded its nine-season run in 2012, is currently streaming on Hulu and Max.
