Chad Stahelski Directing Blade: Fan’s Dilemma Unveiled

Over the past ten years, Chad Stahelski has been one of my favorite directors due to his exceptional filmmaking skills. Known for creating the highly acclaimed “John Wick” series, which features some of the best action movies ever made, Stahelski excels in action sequences, pays meticulous attention to detail, and is adept at storytelling. Therefore, when I learned he might direct the long-awaited “Blade” reboot, you’d expect me to be thrilled and ready to say “take my money.” However, I must confess that I’m not overly enthused about this news.

Being a big admirer of Chad Stahelski and the Blade films, I’ve always appreciated their opening scenes, like the blood-drenched club sequence. However, I’m not entirely convinced that this project is the ideal choice for either party involved. To clarify, my enthusiasm for the upcoming Marvel film remains unwavering; I simply have doubts about the direction they’re taking with it.

Don’t Get Me Wrong, I Think Chad Stahelski Would Be Perfect For Blade

Initially, when I stumbled upon whispers about Chad Stahelski potentially helming the Blade film on platforms such as World of Reel and ScreenRant a few weeks back, my initial thought was, “Kevin Feige, if you can bring this to life quickly, please do!” The idea of the director responsible for creating the action-packed, high-octane John Wick fight sequences tackling Marvel Comics’ main vampire hunter, now portrayed by Mahershala Ali, is a union that seems divinely orchestrated in the realm of action cinema. It would be reminiscent of George A. Romero directing a Resident Evil movie.

Through his career, Stahlenski has consistently demonstrated an exceptional ability to create thrilling action scenes or gunfights, but he also excels at crafting rich worlds filled with intricate lore and numerous stories that share a common universe. If the rumors prove true and this project takes flight, it could be a fantastic fit for the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially as we approach the Russos’ anticipated “Avengers: Doomsday.

But that brings me to my first major sticking point…

It’s Just That The MCU Project’s Development Has Had One Obstacle After Another

The planned adaptation of Blade within the Marvel Cinematic Universe was initially unveiled in 2019, but its progress has been stop-and-go, encountering various hurdles, postponements, and complications. Initially slated for release towards the end of the 2025 movie calendar on November 5th, Marvel executives later decided to remove it from their schedule entirely without setting a new date. Despite numerous other Marvel projects being announced and released during this nearly six-year period, there’s still no definitive information available regarding the storyline for Blade.

In essence, our updates about the Blade movie have mostly been about its prolonged development or discarded plans. Kevin Feige occasionally gives us updates, yet progress remains elusive. I’m not ready to abandon hope completely like with El Muerto featuring Bad Bunny, but honestly, my expectations aren’t particularly high right now.

And It Seems Like The Can Would Have To Be Kicked Even Further Down The Road With All The John Wick 5 Talk

One reason I’m hesitant about Chad Stahelski directing the Blade movie is because he will be working on John Wick: Chapter 5, which brings back Keanu Reeves as the main character. Given that the John Wick series is thriving – Ballerina comes out this summer and there are more projects planned – I find it hard to believe Stahelski would want to focus on something else when the John Wick franchise seems so personally important to him. With no release date for Blade yet, and fewer openings in the MCU calendar as time goes by, this might turn into a situation where we keep pushing the decision back.

Despite being unsure about the specifics of the fifth John Wick film, such as how it plans to bring back its main character who was presumed dead following an intense battle in John Wick: Chapter 4, I’m confident that the key figures involved are currently brainstorming these details. Consequently, director Chad Stahelski is likely to dedicate a significant portion of his time over the coming months and years, seeking a compelling narrative for the franchise.

Stahelski Is Also Working On Highlander And Ghost Of Tsushima, And I’m Worried About His Bandwidth

Over the past couple of years, Chad Stahelski has emerged as one of Hollywood’s busiest figures, with an impressive list of projects underway. This abundance of work is starting to raise concerns about his ability to handle it all. Since 2023, Stahelski has been involved in directing several different productions and producing even more, which is quite astonishing. Among the numerous projects from the John Wick director that have me eagerly awaiting, there are two standouts: his adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima into live-action and his remake of Highlander featuring Henry Cavill.

Chad Stahelski has been involved with the Highlander project for several years, and it’s yet to be determined how his involvement in the Ballerina reshoots might affect the fantasy remake. Similarly, there’s a planned adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima, based on the popular PlayStation game, but since our conversation in late 2023, no updates have been shared.

It’s my hope that my worries prove to be unnecessary, and Chad Stahelski not only directs Blade, but also delivers one of the top-tier Marvel films ever made. If there’s someone who can pull this off, I believe it’s him.
