As a dedicated fan of both The Boys and Gen V, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of loss with the tragic passing of Chance Perdomo. His untimely demise in March 2024 robbed us not only of an exceptional talent but also of an exciting character arc that was just beginning to unfold.
Chance Perdomo was a rising star in Hollywood when his promising career was cut short. He was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident in March 2024, just a few months ago. Perdomo was one of the leads in Gen V, the spin-off to Amazon’s hit TV show, The Boys. But Perdomo’s role in this depraved and violent universe almost started much earlier, when he nearly landed a role in The Boys as a very different kind of character.
Chance Perdomo Auditioned for the Role of Hughie Campbell
As a longtime comic book enthusiast with a soft spot for gritty, action-packed superhero stories, I’ve been absolutely thrilled by “The Boys.” Different from the usual suspects like Marvel or DC, this series is published by Dynamite Entertainment, offering a refreshing take on the genre.
In this alternate reality, we catch a peek at what the globe would be like if superheroes were among us. Labeled as “supes,” these individuals aren’t merely selfless heroes. They possess flaws, egotism, and even hideous personalities. Yet, they are supported by a powerful media conglomerate worth billions of dollars.
One key character in “The Boys” is Hughie Campbell, an unsuspecting and powerless young man whose life is drastically changed when A-Train, a highly powerful superhero, accidentally kills his girlfriend. He joins forces with The Boys, a team of flawed and unconventional individuals, supported by the CIA, to bring down dangerous superhumans.
Chance Perdomo auditioned to play Hughie but didn’t land the role. The result is that we can’t imagine anyone other than Jack Quaid playing Hughie Campbell. Well, except for Simon Pegg, who was the inspiration behind the character in the comics and actually plays Hughie’s father in the show.
Perdomo Lands a Role in Gen V
The makers of “The Boys” kept Perdomo’s audition in mind and gave him a major part in their upcoming spin-off, titled “Gen V.” In this series, viewers get to explore Godolkin University, where young superheroes hone their abilities. Perdomo’s character, Andre Anderson, is among these students, and he’s quite distinct from the persona Perdomo tried out for initially.
Instead of Hughie, there’s Andre, a self-assured and collected young man with extraordinary abilities. He’s essentially the new Magneto from Generation V, capable of managing metal and influencing magnetic fields. Andre plays a pivotal part in Gen V and contributes significantly to revealing the dangerous virus that emerged as a menace in The Boys season 4.
How Will Gen V Handle Perdomo’s Death?
As a dedicated gamer following the Gen V series on Amazon, I was thrilled when season one left us hanging with Andre and his friends mysteriously waking up in an unknown place, facing an intriguing predicament. The anticipation for season two was high, with filming scheduled to begin in April. Sadly, production hit a major roadblock with the untimely demise of Perdomo, delaying the continuation of our gaming journey together.
As a longtime fan of the Gen V series, I’ve grown attached to many characters over the years, and Andre Anderson is no exception. So when I heard that Perdomo would not be recast for his role, my initial thought was: what does this mean for Andre?
