In a vibrant and long-lasting profession that has flourished for two decades, Channing Tatum has undeniably solidified his position as a beloved actor in Hollywood. With an impressive repertoire, this versatile performer has graced the big screen in numerous blockbusters such as She’s the Man, Magic Mike, 21 Jump Street, and Logan Lucky. Tatum fearlessly showcases his playful character, and in 2022 he starred in two of the year’s most highly anticipated films: The Lost City and Bullet Train.
Despite his memorable performance alongside Sandra Bullock in the action-adventure hit “The Lost City,” Channing Tatum also delivered a hilarious cameo in the action comedy “Bullet Train,” led by Brad Pitt. This unexpected appearance left audiences laughing and appreciative. Interestingly, astute fans of both the talented actor and the successful films have noticed an entertaining link between the two box office sensations. An intriguing Easter egg from “Bullet Train” serves as a fun connection to “The Lost City”; let’s take a closer look at it.
Channing Tatum’s Hilariously Unexpected Bullet Train Cameo
Channing Tatum is indisputably one of the most captivating leading men in cinema, effortlessly taking on roles ranging from major to minor parts, and delivering standout performances in numerous beloved films such as “This Is the End”, “Don Jon”, and “Free Guy”. In the action-packed 2022 comedy “Bullet Train”, Tatum showcased his eccentric side yet again by making a surprising appearance in the heart-pounding film. The movie centers around the character of “Ladybug” (played by Brad Pitt), an uneasy assassin, who finds himself up against other deadly gun-for-hire professionals as they all vie to complete a high-stakes mission on a speeding train.
As Ladybug navigates through deadly machines such as the British siblings Tangerine (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Lemon (Brian Tyree Henry), The Hornet armed with poison (Zazzie Beetz), and the young assassin The Prince (Joey King), he unexpectedly encounters a familiar figure on a train. In his pursuit of a valuable briefcase filled with money, Ladybug comes across Train Passenger, played by Tatum, a fittingly named character who is simply trying to read peacefully amid the ongoing turmoil and violence.
Ladybug proposes a deal of $200 to the stranger, suggesting he wear his hat and create a distraction to confuse other assailants while the stranger is on the hunt for his ransom money or suitcase. Tatum playfully inquires, “Is this some sort of seduction?” clearly intrigued by Ladybug’s enigmatic presence. Although the scene was short-lived, Tatum delivered a memorable performance, with his character displaying more curiosity and amusement than fear amidst the chaos, and sharp-eyed viewers have since discovered an interesting detail: the book he was reading originates from the movie The Lost City, one of Tatum’s blockbuster films.
Apart from surprising Ladybug and Tangerine (and pleasing film viewers), the stranger’s small stature also paid homage to Tatum’s action-packed movie of that year, which was titled The Lost City. Intriguingly, Tatum himself, along with his co-star from The Lost City, Sandra Bullock, appeared as cameos in Bullet Train. Interestingly, Pitt later reciprocated by featuring in their action comedy, portraying the rugged and handsome ex-Navy SEAL, Jack Trainer.
Brad Pitt Delightfully Returns the Cameo Favor
Channing Tatum and Sandra Bullock teamed up brilliantly in the thrilling action-adventure hit “The Lost City“. The story revolves around Loretta Sage, a former archaeology researcher turned successful romance novelist who experiences her life imitating her fiction when she gets kidnapped by the quirky billionaire Abigail Fairfax (Daniel Radcliffe). He believes that Loretta possesses the secret to locating a valuable ancient artifact. Alan Caprison, a not-so-bright yet determined cover model for Loretta’s books, harbors a secret affection for her and embarks on a daring rescue mission to free her from Fairfax’s clutches.
In a different scenario, Alan calls upon Jack Trainer, an experienced CIA operative and former Navy SEAL with immense strength and resources, to locate Loretta and Fairfax following his flight with Loretta to a distant volcanic island in the Atlantic. In this version, Brad Pitt delivered an exhilarating guest role, portraying Trainer who became Loretta’s romantic ideal due to his fearless personality, striking good looks, and engaging charisma (although this impression was brief-lived). It was Bullock (who also served as executive producer on The Lost City) that brought these top-tier actors together in their highly anticipated films, all thanks to the fact they happened to share the same hairdresser.
As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I can’t help but revel in the extraordinary success of not one, but two blockbuster hits – “Bullet Train” and “The Lost City.” These cinematic masterpieces have collectively grossed an astounding $431.9 million worldwide, while garnering unanimous praise from critics and fans alike.
In a fascinating interview Sandra Bullock had with ComicBook in 2022, she shared a unique behind-the-scenes tale. It seems that despite their Academy Awards, neither Brad Pitt nor Sandra Bullock directly communicated during the creative process. Instead, they relied on their mutual hairstylist to act as the go-between for their collaborations, with our hairstylist also taking care of Pitt’s hair for “Bullet Train.” Bullock revealed this intriguing exchange in her conversation with the publication.
During Bullet Train, she was styling his hair and he asked her to call Sandy to join the project. However, he never contacted me directly. All communication went through Janine. After agreeing to the project myself, I also communicated with Brad only via Janine. In essence, Janine Rath-Thompson served as the connection for our work on this film.
