As a longtime fan of Inside The NBA, let me tell you, this year has been a rollercoaster ride filled with highs and lows that would put LeBron James’ career to shame. From the looming threat of cancellation to the shocking news of its demise only to be resurrected like Lazarus on ESPN, it’s safe to say we’ve been through it all.
2021 has been quite a rollercoaster ride for those involved with Inside The NBA. This cherished sports discussion program, starring Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith, and Ernie Johnson, went from the brink of cancellation to being cancelled, then acquired by another network after TNT lost the broadcast rights for NBA games. Despite all the ups and downs, they continued to provide an enjoyable viewing experience in their signature Inside The NBA style. And as a fitting end to this eventful year, they surprised fans with a heartwarming gesture – sharing family photos.
Indeed! If you’re among those who keep tabs on Inside The NBA via social media, you received an unexpected yuletide delight yesterday. The show unveiled a captivating collection of photos, taken by the hosts themselves. Clad in Christmas sweaters, they playfully recreated typical mall photographer poses, such as looking off into the distance, emitting simultaneous shouts, and my favorite, leaning away from each other. Take a peek at this seasonal charm below…

As a die-hard fan of “Inside The NBA,” I’d say that every one of those four fellows has an exceptional basketball intellect. Not only can they analyze plays and suggest strategic adjustments like coaches, but there’s something more to the show that makes it truly outstanding – the camaraderie among them. They banter back and forth as if they were a bunch of pals just hanging out, yet their banter is filled with a genuine affection for each other that shines through.
They’re enjoying themselves so much that it’s contagious! This joy shines through in these family photos. In fact, there are more where these came from – they took even more pictures because they were having such a great time together and kept laughing. Take a look at their expressions in this one…
It’s incredibly frustrating to consider that we almost lost “Inside The NBA”, and it appears we were on the brink. The situation began when the rights for the NBA broadcast expired. For years, TNT has aired NBA games a few nights a week, with the “Inside The NBA” team providing their insights alongside the games. Regrettably, Warner Bros lost the rights to show NBA matches starting from the next season. The crew, particularly Charles Barkley, expressed their displeasure and annoyance towards Warner Bros management about this turn of events. In fact, fans anticipated that the commentary might become even more candid during what could be the final season, as the team wouldn’t have to worry about what their superiors thought anymore.
However, it turned out to be a Christmas blessing! ESPN and Warner Bros managed to reach an agreement that allows Barkley and his team to continue working with Warner Bros while airing their show on ESPN, right alongside NBA games. Fans are beyond excited, and these family photos offer a sneak peek of what we might expect next year. I’m already looking forward to it!
