As a long-time fan of Charli XCX and Saturday Night Live, I must say that this recent turn of events has left me feeling both amused and overjoyed. It’s not every day that you see your favorite pop star being impersonated on one of the most iconic comedy shows in history!
Charli XCX expresses her thoughts on Bowen Yang’s recent portrayal of her during the Season 50 premiere of Saturday Night Live.
The musician from Britain, responsible for sparking the “Brat Summer” trend through the launch of her Brat album in June, expressed admiration for the comedian during an interview on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM channel on Wednesday, stating that she was truly “impressed” by his performance.
Charli XCX expressed her admiration for Bowen and praised his work by saying, ‘He did a fantastic job.’ She was particularly struck by the quality of his hairstyle, which she found to be an excellent wig. Overall, she thought it was impressive.
When Stern inquired if she felt any irritation towards the SNL skit, the “Apple” singer responded, “Not at all, not at all, not at all. I believe SNL is legendary, and Troye [Sivan] and I were aware that something like this might happen, so we were extremely thrilled about it.
At the moment, Charli XCX is touring together with Sivan, who unveiled his third studio album titled “Something to Give Each Other” last year, and they are sharing the headlining duties.
The drawing showcased Yang dressed up like the “360” singer for a fictional chat program titled “The Chat Chat Show featuring Charli XCX“. Sarah Sherman portrayed Sivan. In this part of the program, emphasizing the album’s vibrant green theme, the actor from “Wicked” tried to clarify the meaning of “Brat” by using terms like “brat or nat”. For instance, “Amy Adams in ‘Nightbitch‘: brat”, but “Eric Adams’ indictment: nat.
Back in 2014, I got the chance to make my Saturday Night Live debut as the musical guest, an experience I’ll never forget! Fast forward a few years, and I was invited back to the SNL stage in 2022 – it felt amazing to return to where it all started.
On the opening night of season 50, Jean Smart served as the host for NBC’s popular comedy-musical program, featuring special musical guest Jelly Roll.
