Charlie Brooker Wrote Multiple USS Callister Sequels Before Final Version

For eight long years, we haven’t caught up with the crew from the “USS Callister” who narrowly escaped death in their last encounter. In episode six of Black Mirror Season 7, now streaming on Netflix (and it’s a must-watch!), they’re not exactly thriving when we rejoin them. MovieWeb had a chat with star Cristin Milioti, who portrays Nanette Cole within the video game Infinity. She shared that while there have been plans for a “” sequel since the initial release, the storyline has undergone numerous changes.

Milioti shared that shortly after the initial airing of “USS Callister: Into Infinity,” discussions about a sequel began almost immediately. Charlie Brooker, the creator, was eager to return to the project, leading to numerous conversations over the years. At various points, it was envisioned as a full series or an entirely different film.

Each plot was unique for every instance. There were a few similarities, as if the clones played some role in each story, but they appeared in various forms. Remarkably, Charlie conceived no less than three or four distinct plots, which is truly astonishing. To summarize, the only constants across all these stories were the clones encountering themselves.

“What Are the Chances?”

To Milioti, the very existence of “USS Callister: Into Infinity” remains astonishingly unreal and wondrous. She explained, “You understand, creating something is considered impossible and a miracle. Even when something is produced at all, let alone if it’s done skillfully, it feels like a miracle. I believe that in this profession, you learn to adjust your expectations so as not to be disheartened.” The actor further elaborated on her thoughts.

For quite some time, I had this idea that seemed too good to be true – “Wow, wouldn’t this be amazing?”, I thought, but I never believed it could actually happen, given all the variables that needed to align perfectly for us to reunite in a secure setting. It was a rollercoaster of excitement and disappointment over the years. However, it wasn’t until 2023, just before the strikes, that things started feeling real. That’s when we decided, “Alright, let’s do this. They’re going to construct sets. Everyone’s schedules are falling into place. Here we go!

Without a doubt, let’s push forward! Fasten your seatbelts as we embark on this thrilling journey. Don’t wait any longer; witness it firsthand! The seventh season of Black Mirror is now available for streaming on Netflix via the link provided below:
