Charlie Hunnam to Star as Serial Killer Ed Gein in Season 3 of Ryan Murphy’s ‘Monster’

As a devoted fan of gripping true-crime stories and exceptional acting performances, I am absolutely thrilled about Ryan Murphy’s latest announcement! The casting of Charlie Hunnam as Ed Gein in the third cycle of Netflix’s anthology series, Monster, is an absolute masterstroke.

Ryan Murphy has discovered his next ‘Monster’ character in Ed Gein, along with Charlie Hunnam. The star of “Sons of Anarchy” is set to portray the infamous serial murderer and grave robber, known as “the Butcher of Plainfield,” in a future season of the Netflix anthology series titled “Monster“.

Murphy revealed both the cast and production timeline, set to commence next month, during a Monday showing of the latest installment in the series — “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story“. Each installment within the Monster series endeavors to explore a distinct true-crime tale following the phenomenal 2022 premiere centered around serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. That show remains the third most-watched English-language Netflix original ever produced. The upcoming season zeroes in on the notorious Menendez brothers, who were found guilty of murdering their parents in 1989, generating widespread attention during the 1990s when the trial took place.

Following the completion of his Netflix deal in 2023, even more success is expected for Monster, as this prolific producer has been racking up hits left and right. Despite now being involved with The Walt Disney Company, he remains committed to his ongoing projects at Netflix, such as penning the premiere episode for season two of The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story in collaboration with fellow showrunner and executive producer Ian Brennan.

On Monday, no further cast members were revealed, but it was announced that Hunnam had joined the project, which follows shortly after he secured a leading role in another show. Additionally, he is slated to star as the main character in Amazon’s “Criminal.

As for season two of Monsters, all nine episodes drop Sept. 19 on Netflix.
