Chase Stokes Talks Having ‘So Many Near Death Experiences’ On Outer Banks, And How Uglies Ending Compares

As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in various virtual worlds and narratives, I can confidently say that the recent surge of Netflix releases like “Uglies” and “Outer Banks” has been nothing short of exhilarating. The latest YA book adaptation, “Uglies,” featuring Chase Stokes as Tally’s best friend Peris, has undoubtedly captured the attention of millions, with its captivating storyline and stellar performances.

In recent days, the anticipated 2024 Netflix movie and TV premieres have been making waves, with the “Uglies” movie grabbing attention as it tops streaming viewership over the weekend. This latest installment in young adult book adaptations has undoubtedly attracted more viewers due to Chase Stokes, known for his role in “Outer Banks,” taking on one of the lead roles as Tally’s friend. TopMob recently interviewed Stokes about his time working on this sci-fi production and how it compares to his other significant Netflix projects.

Here’s where we delve into significant plot points, or as we say in the book “Uglies”, Stokes portrays Peris, who is the first among their group to reach the age of sixteen. In this futuristic society, everyone undergoes cosmetic surgery at that age, but for Tally, it marks a turning point as Peris becomes rude and works for the antagonist (Dr. Cable, played by Laverne Cox) following his transformation. Tragically, Peris meets his end in “Uglies” after falling from a towering cliff while trying to harm David, an event Tally attempts to prevent. During my interview with Stokes about filming the death scene, he shared these thoughts:

It’s quite amusing because in those instances, you find yourself balanced on a wire, situated in a studio backlot, repeatedly descending again and again and again. You perform this act multiple times. So there you are, perched on a wire, thinking to yourself, ‘This is starting to pinch my lower body. Could I please come down for a moment?’

Although the death scene was quite intense, it’s intriguing to contemplate what it would have been like filming that moment on that particular day. Moreover, if you’ve kept up with the series Outer Banks, you may have observed that John B comes close to meeting his end numerous times throughout the show. In fact, one of our team members took the time to tally up the instances where John B narrowly escaped death on Outer Banks. Given this context, the actor himself shared some thoughts about his character’s demise in the series Uglies.

It’s quite ironic, yet comforting, watching the character go through numerous close calls with death on screen, only to experience a sense of finality in ‘Outer Banks’. However, there’s always a chance that Paris could land safely on a large platform, leaving us unsure about his fate. A hint of suspense remains…hint, hint!

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but notice the intriguing twist in Chase Stokes’ portrayal of his Netflix characters. Initially, he admired the sense of finality that came with one role, only to hint later that perhaps death wasn’t his character’s ultimate fate. This has me wondering if Stokes secretly enjoys the near-death narrative and if an Uglies sequel were to bring Peris back from the dead, he’d certainly be breaking some kind of record, wouldn’t he?

Joey King has long been determined to adapt Scott Westerfield’s novel, “Uglies,” into a film, as she shared with TopMob. At the press event for the movie, King and her fellow cast members discussed the relevant topics it tackles regarding beauty norms. Catch a glimpse of Stokes’ metamorphosis into a “Pretty.

A striking transformation took place when we spoke with Stokes. He shared his insights on transforming himself into a ‘Charming Person’.

I dyed my hair platinum blonde, which was not the smartest idea on my part. And, I learned a lesson that it takes a couple sessions to get through that. I also learned I have like the worst tear ducts ever and I cry so easily. So getting the eyeliner on was a whole process. ’cause they’d be like, he’s crying it off again. Actively crying it off. So, but it looks cool in the movie, so I’m like, beauty is pain sometimes.

Currently, you have the opportunity to watch Chase Stokes in both “Outer Banks” and “Uglies” by subscribing to Netflix. Excitingly, “Outer Banks” will be returning for its fourth season, set to premiere on October 10th.
