As a gamer who’s always been captivated by the intersection of fashion and technology, I can’t help but be enthralled by Chet Lo‘s Spring/Summer 2025 collection. His tribute to his mother, Mai-Wah Cheung, resonates deeply with me, not just as a fellow Asian-American, but also as someone who understands the profound impact our parents have on our lives and careers.
Designer Chet Lo, hailing from Asia, is spearheading an innovative movement, expanding his team of spiked knitwear creators with a focus on sensuality. After graduating from Lulu Kennedy’s Fashion East, Chet Lo has made a significant impact on the London Fashion Week calendar, showcasing his Spring/Summer 2025 collection on the opening day with an emotional homage to powerful women who never give up.
This season, SS25 highlights Chet Lo in a more tender manner by paying tribute to his mother, Mai-Wah Cheung. Known for being a disruptive influence in fields such as computer science, digital media, art, and education, the story of Mai-Wah’s resilience and adaptability resonates with the collection, evoking emotional undertones.
Titled “Mai’s Blossoms,” the collection showcases 31 looks, each one capturing the essence of the mother figure through Lo’s unique style, which combines sharp spikes with soft draping. This creates a subtle contrast that mirrors an underlying strength and fluidity. The collection starts with a series of sheer organza dresses adorned with digital “glitch” patterns inspired by her influence in technology.
Knitted garments show life through a mix of black and blue, as modern business wear is reinvented featuring asymmetrical skirts and transparent knee areas. On the other hand, mini dresses wrapped in cloaks feature off-center head coverings, leading to sharpened eveningwear, tailored pleated pants, and jumpsuits with zippers and knotted belts. Lastly, Cheung’s current creative influences round out the collection with intricate fruit embellishments, as Chet Lo and Mai-Wah Cheung take their final bow together.
