Warning: Spoilers for Chicago Fire season 13, episode 19
Hanako Greensmith’s character, Violet Mikami, has experienced heartache in the series Chicago Fire. Following her romance with Chief Evan Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas), their bond was severed when Hawkins lost his life while on duty. It took Violet a considerable amount of time to come to terms with this loss, making it difficult for her to fully invest in her relationship with Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) once they began enjoying each other’s company. This hesitation ultimately led to Sam departing temporarily before the start of Chicago Fire season 13.
Since Violet has realized her past oversight, she’s chosen to rekindle her relationship with Carver. Unfortunately, their situation isn’t ideal, as Carver has moved on and struggles with alcoholism. Despite the constant attraction drawing them back together, this connection is bound to result in heartache for Violet. However, given that Lockett is departing from the One Chicago series, it seems their budding relationship will not come to fruition, leaving this development feeling somewhat wasted.
Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 19 Brings Violet & Carver Closer Together
Carver Continues To Support Violet In Solving Mysteries
In the 19th episode of season 13 of “Chicago Fire,” Violet was determined to identify the enigmatic medic treating patients. Carver joined her on this quest, which culminated in them being confronted with a gun when they approached an apartment door. Even though it became clear that Violet could manage herself in such situations, Carver chose to stay by her side and offer assistance.
In Chicago Fire’s season 13, the duo are drawing closer together. During their assignment, Violet shared her feelings about reaching out to Carver, as he was on a break to manage his drinking issues. She also disclosed that she had written him a letter. By the finale, there seemed to be a chance for them to reconnect, although Carver declined a coffee date and opted instead for an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting instead.
Presently, the two continue to be friends, and if Lockett stays with “Chicago Fire” during season 14, there’s a chance their relationship may re-ignite. They are content to encourage one another in their individual endeavors, and it is evident that they still harbor feelings for each other. Thus, they could potentially become the next romantic couple on “Chicago Fire,” even though Violet is currently involved with someone else.
Carver Leaving Chicago Fire Season 13 Means Violet’s Budding Romance Will Be Cut Short
Jake Lockett Is Leaving Chicago Fire
It seems there’s a single issue with the ongoing storyline in Chicago Fire season 13 at present: Lockett is departing from Chicago Fire ahead of season 14, and thus, everything that’s happening now feels insignificant. The tension and development of Lockett’s relationship doesn’t lead to a satisfying resolution since he won’t be part of the show anymore. Many viewers are curious about how Carver will exit the series, as there could be two possible scenarios for his departure from the show.
One possibility is for Carver to depart, and this could involve him returning to Texas to seek help from his relatives and acquaintances there due to his alcohol addiction. Another way to express his departure might be that his drinking becomes a safety concern and results in his termination. In any case, this implies that Carver is still alive but is choosing to leave Violet and their growing relationship behind.
The second scenario might serve as a parallel to the heartaches Violet has previously experienced with Hawkins, as there’s a chance Carver could perish while on duty. Previously, characters like Shay (Lauren German) and Otis (Yuri Sardarov) have exited the series due to tragic deaths similar to Chicago Fire. It’s been some time since Firehouse 51 officially lost someone in the line of duty, with Hawkins being the most recent casualty. If Violet were to lose two significant others in this manner, it would be heart-wrenching for viewers to witness. However, it would prevent us from feeling frustrated towards Carver for simply departing.
Why Chicago Fire Is Writing Out Jake Lockett’s Carver After Season 13
Chicago Fire Season 14 Negotiations Are Underway
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel optimistic about the future of Chicago Fire, even though an official renewal for season 14 hasn’t been announced yet. The show remains one of NBC’s highest-rated programs in linear ratings, which suggests that another season could very well be on the horizon. However, negotiations are ongoing, and the significant cost of production is a key concern. Recent reports from Deadline hint at Lockett departing the series, with financial reasons being cited as a factor.
For several seasons, the Dick Wolf universe has occasionally edited out characters from episodes, keeping the cast costs under control but necessitating negotiations whenever new contracts arise. An alternative strategy to reduce cast expenses might involve permanently removing an actor without replacing them, a possibility Deadline hints could be occurring with Chicago Fire and may extend to other One Chicago shows.
It’s truly disheartening for us given the promising plotlines we envision. Unfortunately, television production costs are escalating while linear viewership is decreasing, resulting in reduced ad revenue. In an effort to save money, production companies like ours must find alternative solutions. For “Chicago Fire,” this translates into trimming some of the main cast members.
