As a long-time Marvel fanatic with a lifetime of memories tied to these iconic films, I can confidently say that the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Secret Wars” are shaping up to be nothing short of epic. With whispers of Chris Evans’ return as Captain America, but this time as a HYDRA agent, it’s like Marvel is daring to defy all expectations.
Fans are well aware that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a reliable fountain of entertainment, available in cinemas and via a Disney+ subscription. There’s a lot of buzz surrounding upcoming Marvel films, particularly the next two Avengers team-ups. The internet is abuzz with speculation about movies like Doomsday and Secret Wars, with many discussions revolving around Chris Evans potentially reprising his role in the MCU. Fan art imagining Captain America’s return has sparked curiosity, and I can’t help but hope that this story unfolds on the big screen.
What we know about Avengers: Doomsday is limited, but the hype is real about Robert Downey Jr. playing Doctor Doom. Fans are excited to see the variant of Tony Stark as a villain, and some are hoping that we also get to see Cap as a baddie, perhaps a HYDRA agent. That’s quite intriguing! It sounds like an exciting approach to reintroduce the original Captain America, with a twist, which could be particularly fitting considering the upcoming Avengers films focus on the multiverse. We’ll simply have to keep our fingers crossed and see if this idea materializes on the silver screen.
People who followed the Marvel films sequentially are well aware of Captain America’s noble character throughout his tenure. Therefore, I’m thrilled about the possibility of him becoming a HYDRA Agent in future Avengers movies. If Tony Stark can become a villain, why can’t Steve Rogers?
Seeing Chris Evans back in the MCU doesn’t seem totally out of the question, as he had a small but memorable role in Deadpool & Wolverine. Rather than ruining Steve and Peggy’s happy ending from Avengers: Endgame, Evans actually reprise his role as The Fantastic Four’s Human Torch (with a serious potty mouth). He’s already proven himself willing to dip his toes back into the Marvel pools, so perhaps playing a HYDRA version of Captain America in the multiverse is interesting enough to entice the 43 year-old actor.
In other words, it appears that anything could unfold in the films “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Secret Wars”, given the numerous possibilities with the variants. Even though Chris Evans may not wish to commit to another extensive movie deal as Captain America (particularly since Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson has assumed the role), the idea of reprising a villainous character could be quite intriguing.
Indeed, there are several popular Marvel characters that fans are eager to see appear in The Russo Brothers’ forthcoming Avengers movies. Notably, Elizabeth Olsen’s character, the Scarlet Witch, and the heroes from Deadpool and Wolverine’s titles, are highly anticipated by fans.
Upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film, “Captain America: A New World,” is set to premiere in theaters on Valentine’s Day, February 14th. In the meantime, mark your calendars with the 2025 movie release dates to make sure you don’t miss any exciting theater visits in the New Year!
