Chris Hemsworth Tells Us The One Part Of Making Marvel Movies He Finds ‘Exhausting,’ And I Can See Why

As a long-time fan of Marvel movies and having watched Chris Hemsworth bring Thor to life on the big screen numerous times, I can’t help but feel a newfound appreciation for the actor’s dedication and the challenges he faces behind the scenes.

Being in the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to be a challenging endeavor. acting as a superhero entails spending long hours at the gym and enduring tiring filming sessions. Additionally, wearing a superhero suit can be uncomfortable. Yet, for Chris Hemsworth, the most demanding aspect of this role goes beyond the physical effort; it’s the process of recording the audio for all those strenuous actions.

At San Diego Comic-Con, Chris Hemsworth shared with TopMob that recording “efforts” for Thor is the most tiring aspect of his role. These efforts refer to the sessions where an actor records all the sounds their character makes during strenuous scenes. Since many of these sounds are required for off-camera actions or when the actor is running around or getting hit, the audio is typically recorded separately. Hemsworth added that these sessions take a toll on his voice.

Recording fight scene sounds is draining. After so many years in this line of work, I find myself longing to reuse old recordings instead of creating new ones from scratch for each project. The throat strain and exhaustion that come with producing the required “oohs,” “ughs,” and other sound effects can be overwhelming. Despite my requests to recycle previous recordings, producers insist on unique sounds for every character. Even in Marvel films, I’ve encountered this challenge. By the end of a recording session, I’m often left speechless due to the vocal strain.

I was taken aback when Chris Hemsworth revealed that the voice acting process for making a superhero movie is the most draining aspect of it all. I used to think it was a walk in the park, but after listening to him describe it, I completely understand. I’ve experienced the challenges of voice acting myself, and this resonates with me. It sounds incredibly grueling. And let’s not forget that an action movie is filled with such scenes, so recording just the sounds for them would be a daunting task indeed.

As a long-time Marvel fan and someone who has watched every single Thor and Avengers movie featuring Chris Hemsworth, I can’t help but be puzzled by the recurring issue of sound reuse in these films. With a grand total of eight movies under his belt, you’d think that Marvel Studios would have amassed an impressive library of sounds for their leading man to draw from.

As a dedicated Marvel fan, I can’t help but wonder what lies ahead for Thor in upcoming films. One thing is certain, though: if he graces our screens once more, Chris Hemsworth will undoubtedly put in the effort to produce another round of throat-scorching sound effects. When I rewatch all the Marvel movies in sequence in the future, I’ll be acutely aware of these vocal masterpieces.
