Many folks are eagerly anticipating the upcoming movies scheduled for 2025, which promise excitement for fans of all genres and enthusiasts who appreciate the work of Chris Hemsworth and The Russo Brothers. While it’s expected that “Avengers: Doomsday” will begin filming next spring, there’s also an exciting update about the status of “Extraction 3” from the directing duo!
However, as the sequel to a highly acclaimed action movie appears to be progressing smoothly, I’m concerned that another Netflix project by the Russos might get overlooked amidst all this activity.
Extraction 3 Is Further Along Than You Thought
At New York Comic-Con, Collider had a chat with the directors of Avengers: Endgame, who were present to publicize their upcoming film The Electric State. During this conversation, Joe Russo shared some exciting updates about the sequel to the high-octane action in Extraction 2. This initial announcement was filled with intriguing tidbits.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve got some exciting news to share! We’re deeply engrossed in crafting the storyline for our next project as we speak. It’s all hands on deck and we’re putting in the hard yards. Fingers crossed, we’ll be moving into production next year. You can take that to the bank – it’s a done deal! I might be keeping some details under wraps, but trust me when I say you’re going to love the dynamic between Idris Elba and Chris Hemsworth in Extraction 3. It’s going to be mind-blowing!
Looks like I really ought to make time to watch both movies from the Extraction series before diving into the next chapter. The thought of Idris Elba and Chris Hemsworth dishing out some intense action scenes has me feeling quite pumped up. However, that enthusiasm doesn’t come without a price, as this Netflix project appears to be another hurdle standing between me and the upcoming Russo Brothers franchise that seems to have been on hold recently.
Are We Ever Going To Get That Sequel To The Gray Man?
I penned a review for The Gray Man nearly two years ago, eagerly anticipating more adventures of Court Gentry. Now I find myself gripped by apprehension, fearing the dreaded cancellation news, as there’s been no progress on what once appeared to be a promising series. Remember, it was just last year, shortly after the first movie’s release on Netflix, that The Gray Man franchise promised to continue its run in what could still be considered one of Netflix’s costliest productions.
This led to Scott Stuber’s update on Gray Man towards the end of 2023, where he appeared to soften his stance slightly. He mentioned the importance of “pausing” and considering how to reintroduce Ryan Gosling and other remaining cast members in a significant manner, which seems understandable. However, I find it puzzling why there was any mention of future installments if the development process was so uncertain.
It’s not uncommon for potential franchises to rise and fall in the current market, so it’s not too surprising that The Gray Man might fizzle out. However, with the Russo Brothers returning to the MCU for movies like Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, and Extraction 3 being added to their schedule, it makes the possibility of seeing The Gray Man return seem even more distant.
It’s great news that Idris Elba will be featured more in this upcoming Netflix sequel.
