Aware of this, Chris Rock’s brother, Tony, didn’t mince words when discussing Smith’s album and its less-than-favorable reception so far.

Tony Rock has been vigilantly guarding his elder brother since the events at the 94th Academy Awards. Beyond criticizing the man once known as the Fresh Prince, he’s also emphasized Chris’ stand-up comedy during this period. Regarding this latest album from the Oscar recipient, Tony voiced harsh criticism without even listening to it himself. In an interview with TMZ, the comedian also touched upon what appears to be his perception of the paradox in being advised not to discuss the slap.

Barbershop — Day,” has a variety of voices discussing and commenting on Smith’s actions. The song opens with someone stating that “Will Smith is canceled.” In the second track, “You Lookin’ for Me?”, Smith addresses the slap incident in his verses by saying, “I’ve overcome many obstacles to get back on top/ You’re going to have to get used to it/ My talent still shines brightly/ Even though I won’t be nominated.

The album, being true to real-life events, is Tony Rock’s first release in nearly 20 years. Critics have generally been less favorable towards it compared to his previous works. In an interview, Tony Rock mentioned that the feedback he’s received about the new music mainly revolves around its references to his rapper brother’s encounter. However, he acknowledges that one positive aspect of the track “Gettin’ Jiggy wit It” is its merit in a specific area:

1. Regarding hip-hop, my love for it remains unwavering. His finest work was ‘Brand New Funk.’ I’ll concede that much. I’m not entirely unsympathetic.

2. Essentially, I’m looking out for my sibling. You could say I’m his guardian. That’s the long and short of it.

3. This album likely sucks big time, given that I haven’t heard any positive reviews other than “it mentions your brother.” If that’s its only redeeming quality, then it’s a poorly made album.
