As a seasoned movie buff with over three decades of film-watching under my belt, let me tell you that David Harbour’s Santa Claus in Violent Night was nothing short of a cinematic miracle. The first film was a gift that kept on giving, and I for one can’t wait to see more holiday chaos unfold in Violent Night 2.
In the Christmas season of 2022, an actor from “Stranger Things” surprised us with the most cherished present: a brutal, action-oriented Santa Claus. Known as ““, this festive action-comedy was applauded by both viewers and critics, and although a sequel was announced in January 2023, no news has been shared so far. However, it seems that Santa does take note of our wishes, as Harbour has recently provided an encouraging update on Violent Night 2 following inquiries about the anticipated follow-up by Comicbook.com.
It seems we share the same fondness for that film. In fact, I believe the creators at Universal felt the same way too. Consequently, we’ve been putting in some effort to see if we can make something happen together. Keep an open mind!
I do think there’s some very talented people working on it, so yeah, I’m excited about.”
It appears that Violent Night 2, a follow-up to the action movie, is being crafted by the creative team known as the “Action Movie Elves”. This development is bound to bring joy to many grown-up fans. Directed by Tommy Wirkola, the original Violent Night stars David Harbour in an unprecedented Santa Claus role. In this rendition of Santa, he’s not just handing out presents but also pulling out heavy firepower when a band of elite mercenaries invade a wealthy family’s compound on Christmas Eve, taking everyone inside as hostages.
Featuring John Leguizamo, Beverly D’Angelo, Alex Hassell, Alexis Louder, Edi Patterson, Cam Gigandet, and André Eriksen alongside Harbour, Violent Night turned out to be a fantastic action movie. It received 74% approval from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and an even more delightful 88% rating on Popcornmeter.
What Santa-Related Stuff Might We See in ‘Violent Night 2’?
At this moment, specifics about the potential plot of the Violent Night follow-up are unclear, but director Tommy Wirkola has hinted at possible elements, expressing his desire to explore fresh perspectives on Santa’s mythos, such as the Elves and Mrs. Claus.
Absolutely, they’ve discussed it and I’ve contributed some thoughts. However, unlike the North Pole or Mrs. Claus, or even the elves, we didn’t capture them on screen. There were several creative directions we adored in the script, but budget constraints forced us to omit them. It might sound like a worn-out phrase, but making this movie was an incredible experience. I truly hope we get another chance to delve deeper into these unexplored aspects.
David Harbour, on the other hand, has proposed concepts for a sequel to “Violent Night“, aiming to turn the action-packed movie into something resembling a live-action version of “Rise of the Guardians“. He envisions Pedro Pascal, star of both “Gladiator 2” and “The Last of Us“, playing the Easter Bunny in this new story.
In our upcoming project, let’s cast Pedro Pascal and Oscar Isaac as the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy respectively. This new take on the Santa cinematic universe will feature various fictional characters portrayed by father figures.
As I eagerly anticipate the arrival of “Violent Night 2”, it’s exciting to know that David Harbour has a lot more up his sleeve. He’s set to rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe with “Thunderbolts”, wrap up the final season of “Stranger Things”, and make his DCU debut as Eric Frankenstein in “Creature Commandos”. As a movie enthusiast, these projects have me counting down the days!
