Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Praised at CinemaCon as “Visionary Take” by Universal Boss

This year, Christopher Nolan wasn’t present at CinemaCon due to the fact that he’s immersed in the production of his upcoming masterpiece, titled The Odyssey. However, his name was mentioned on the main stage during the event.

At Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Jim Orr, Universal Pictures’ head of domestic theatrical distribution, spoke highly of Nolan’s creative interpretation of the story during a presentation. He expressed his belief that this film will be an extraordinary cinematic work, one that even the great Homer would admire.

The movie is being labeled by Universal as a “global, mythical action spectacle, filmed using cutting-edge IMAX camera technology. This film marks the debut of Homer’s legendary tale on IMAX screens and will be released in cinemas nationwide on July 17, 2026.

Additionally, Orr acknowledged the impressive lineup of stars that Nolan gathered for this Universal production. To be specific, it boasts an array of talented actors such as Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal, Mia Goth, Elliot Page, Samantha Morton, and more including Cosmo Jarvis and Ryan Hurst.

Damon portrays King Odysseus in Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s epic poem, which chronicles Odysseus’ arduous, decade-long voyage back to his homeland, Ithaca, following the Trojan War. This odyssey is marked by divine interventions and encounters with creatures like cyclopes, as well as detours along the way. Furthermore, the narrative revolves around Odysseus’ wife and adult son who struggle against ambitious suitors vying for the throne while he is away.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be attending CinemaCon this year! It’s an exciting event held in the vibrant city of Las Vegas, hosted by the recently renamed Cinema United (formerly known as the National Association of Theatre Owners). The fun starts from March 31 and continues through April 3. Can’t wait to immerse myself in the world of cinema alongside fellow fans and industry professionals!
