Chyler Leigh Knows Lexie’s Grey’s Anatomy Death Is Memed By The Fans, But How Does She Personally Feel About Being Eaten By Wolves?

As a die-hard Grey’s Anatomy fan who has been through thick and thin with the characters since the very beginning, I must say that the show never ceases to surprise me – and by surprise, I often mean leave me utterly shocked or heartbroken. The plane crash episode still ranks as one of the most harrowing experiences for both the viewers and the characters, and Lexie Grey’s death was no exception.

Jo Wilson and Lucas Adams found themselves in a precarious situation during the fall finale of Grey’s Anatomy Season 21, as they were taken hostage during an armed robbery. As we eagerly anticipate learning more about their potentially revealed fates when the show returns to the 2025 TV lineup, let’s rewind and explore another nerve-wracking episode from the series’ past – the plane crash. The Season 8 finale was just one of many close calls for Meredith Grey, but her sister Lexie unfortunately lost her life in its aftermath. Chyler Leigh, who played Lexie, shared her feelings about her character’s untimely end, and I must admit, I wasn’t prepared for the emotional impact of her being devoured by wolves.

As a devoted fan of “Grey’s Anatomy,” I clearly remember Lexie Grey’s heart-wrenching death after an airplane crash and her declaration of love with Mark Sloan, but I had entirely forgotten about the subsequent events where her body was devoured by wolves. It seems that Chyler Leigh, who portrayed Lexie, might also have overlooked this grisly detail if not for the numerous memes that circulated. So, what does she think about meeting such a gruesome end? During an interview on the “Call It What It Is” podcast, she admitted that she may not have remembered that detail without the internet’s help.

It seems I might have fallen prey to a pack of wolves, which is intriguing since they are among the animals I deeply connect with. In other words, if it did happen, I can accept and even appreciate it as a symbolic encounter with one of my spirit animals.

That certainly wasn’t the outcome I anticipated. Sadly, Lexie Grey met a tragic end when she was crushed by a plane, and her final moments on “Grey’s Anatomy” still stand as one of the saddest and most shocking deaths in the series. It seems unnecessary to treat such an iconic character so poorly, almost sacrificing her to the wolves. However, it’s comforting to know that Chyler Leigh is okay with the decision, and fans have found various ways to deal with this emotional event.

Humor can be an effective method for coping with pain, and it seems that fans of Lexie Grey have been particularly skilled in emphasizing the distressing aspects of her character.

It appears I’ve found myself deeply immersed in this situation. Fingers crossed it won’t last as long as the ordeal Cristina Yang experienced in Season 9, where she recalled being stranded for four days without proper supplies and hearing wolves fight over a fallen comrade.

It’s fortunate that Lexie Grey didn’t make her last appearance then. In Season 17 of Grey’s Anatomy, Lexie and Eric Dane (Mark Sloan) reappeared at Meredith’s COVID beach, enabling Meredith to reunite with her deceased sister, husband Derek, and friend George.

The wolves thing still feels a bit unnecessary, but I guess I should remember that the Seattle hospital was ultimately renamed for the two plane crash victims, so we often do think of Lexie and Mark when we mention Grey Sloan Memorial. Or, we think about this:

As a dedicated fan, I’m confidently predicting that when Grey’s Anatomy graces our screens again on ABC at 10 p.m. ET on Thursday, March 6, 2025, there won’t be any hidden threats lurking for Jo or Lucas. But let’s never forget the incredible heights this show has reached in the past. If you need a refresher, why not dive back into Grey’s Anatomy with a rewatch? You can stream every episode to date with a Hulu subscription, while all 20 seasons are available on Netflix with a subscription too.
