After almost 18 years with Universal Music Group Nashville, Cindy Mabe has stepped down from her position as chair and CEO, based on recent reports.
Country Air Check initially reported that Mabe, who assumed the position of UMGN chair and CEO in April 2023, departed from her role prematurely, having only held it for a short period of less than two years. Previously, she became the first female head of a significant Nashville record label conglomerate, succeeding Mike Dungan as UMGN chair and CEO after his retirement in 2023, following which he relinquished the position.
For quite some time, the seasoned music executive has been a significant figure in the music industry of Nashville. Her professional journey commenced as a promotions coordinator at RCA Nashville. Over the years, she moved on to roles in sales, artist marketing, and development. During this phase, she collaborated with artists such as Martina McBride and Alabama.
She’s spent eight years at Arista Records Nashville, serving as senior director of marketing and artist development, where she collaborated with artists like Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, among others. Prior to this, Mabe had a brief period at Capitol Records. In 2012, she joined UMGN as the SVP of marketing and was later appointed UMGN president in 2014. During her time with the label, she significantly contributed to the growth of numerous artists’ careers such as Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Mickey Guyton, Sam Hunt, Alan Jackson, Parker McCollum, Reba McEntire, Kacey Musgraves, Jon Pardi, Chris Stapleton, George Strait, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Brothers Osborne, and Little Big Town.
In a statement in 2023, UMG referred to Mabe as “a highly esteemed music executive on Music Row and an exceptional marketing professional.
As for my departure from this gaming community, the specifics haven’t been dished out just yet. I guess we’ll have to wait and see who steps up to fill the shoes I’m vacating.
