As a long-time enthusiast of Mattel’s iconic toys and their timeless stories, I must say that Ynon Kreiz’s leadership at the company has been nothing short of transformative! His vision for Mattel as an IP-driven toy business with an expanding entertainment offering is truly inspiring.
Mattel has awarded CEO Ynon Kreiz a unique $15 million stock bonus, acknowledging his achievements in the movie and television industry as a major contributing factor.
Earlier this week, Mattel’s board granted the Retention Performance Award, as they stated in a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing on Friday, emphasizing his ongoing leadership at the company as a crucial aspect of the decision.
According to the statement in the filing, the Committee strongly feels that Mr. Kreiz’s leadership is crucial for the company’s continuous success and future growth prospects. Furthermore, they consider Mr. Kreiz as the primary catalyst for the company’s transition into an IP-focused toy business with a growing entertainment sector.
The filing highlights the financial progress and increase in toy sales for the company, but also emphasizes Mattel’s achievements in entertainment through its divisions, Mattel Films and Mattel Television Studios.
Of course, Mattel played a significant role in one of last year’s major box office successes – the Barbie movie. They are currently collaborating with Paramount Pictures for an American Girl film, and with Universal Studios on a Monster High film as well.
The grant aims for a worth of approximately $15 million, but the precise number of shares he’ll get hinges on various performance aspects such as Mattel’s share value and the overall return to stockholders.
Kreiz’s 2023 compensation package totaled $18.9 million.
