Clarks’ Latest ‘Stranger Things’ Collab Is a Blast From the Past

As someone who grew up in the 80s and spent countless hours watching Stranger Things, I can honestly say that this collaboration between Clarks and Netflix is nothing short of pure nostalgia. The revival of the Hardware Hype shoe, with its keyboard-patterned sole and pulse wave embroidery, takes me back to a time when I was just a kid, eagerly awaiting the next episode of my favorite sci-fi series.

2024 marks Stranger Things Day, and Clarks returns to Hawkins, Indiana, to unveil their newest collaboration with the beloved Netflix series. Following the success of their extensive July collection, this new release brings back a classic: the 1987 Hardware Hype shoe from Clarks.

Originally introduced during the same time period as the show’s backdrop, the silhouette initially offered a blend of intelligence and athleticism, characterized by a keyboard-patterned sole, leather upper, and embroidered pulse wave – reflecting the retro-futuristic aesthetic of the epoch. For the reimagined edition, Clarks has moved more towards the sporty aspect, transforming its essential elements into a sneaker design.

Fundamentally, the sturdy rubber base supports a grid design, whereas up top, black leather is substituted with breathable perforated suede panels. A notable alteration lies in the fastening system, where traditional yellow laces are replaced by a red and white Velcro strap, featuring an intricate pulse wave design on the outer edge. Even the packaging gets a makeover; the iconic Hardware shoebox is redesigned with a captivating sketch of Eleven, the protagonist from Stranger Things, adorning the inside lid.

Building on the show’s recognizable symbols, the brand unveils a fresh interpretation of the ’80s advertisement for their related campaign. In these images, a young gamer character receives Eleven’s powers as he slips into the shoes and dives into an old-school video game. The campaign’s themes are further integrated into the updated lookbook, which features the Hardware sneakers positioned on a desk next to a vintage TV, gaming console, and other nostalgic items from childhood.

As an avid fan, I’m thrilled to share that Clarks has joined forces with Raleigh for an exciting collaboration! In celebration of the ’80s vibe, they’re giving away a unique, one-of-a-kind “Upside-down” Chopper. For diehard Stranger Things enthusiasts like myself, there’s a special competition starting from November 18 on Clarks’ website. The lucky winner will receive this magical bike just in time for season five!
