‘Cleaner’ Gets a Release Date from James Bond Director

As a seasoned movie buff with over three decades of cinematic adventures under my belt, I must say that the upcoming film “Cleaner” starring Daisy Ridley and directed by Martin Campbell has my pulse racing! The action-packed plot set against one of the UK’s tallest buildings sounds like a thrilling rollercoaster ride that I can’t wait to hop on.

The movie that Daisy Ridley referred to as her first action film, titled “Cleaner,” has finally been given a release date. Today, Quiver Distribution revealed they have obtained the North American distribution rights for this Anton and Qwerty Films production, directed by Martin Campbell, renowned for his work on James Bond films like “Casino Royale” and “GoldenEye.” Co-starring Clive Owen, this high-octane action film will put Ridley’s physical prowess to the test. The film is set amidst one of the UK’s tallest buildings, One Canada Square, and Quiver Distribution plans to release it in theaters on February 21, 2025. Here’s a brief summary:

The story unfolds in contemporary London, where a band of passionate activists, under the guidance of Clive Owen, stage a daring heist at an annual gala hosted by an energy company. They kidnap around 300 people as part of their plan to reveal the corrupt practices of the host company. However, one among them, a fanatic, threatens to massacre everyone present to broadcast his chaotic ideology across the globe. The task of rescuing those held captive falls upon an former soldier-turned window cleaner, portrayed by Daisy Ridley, who is precariously perched 50 stories high outside the building.

We’re excited to join forces with Martin Campbell and the Anton crew for the release of ‘Cleaner’ to North American viewers,” said Quiver Distribution Co-Presidents Berry Meyerowitz and Jeff Sackman. “This movie offers a pulse-pounding journey filled with some of the most powerful action scenes in recent memory.” A year ago, while the film was still in production, Daisy Ridley shared with MovieWeb:

Currently, I find myself engaged in an experience that seems to me like the initial action film I’ve been part of. Although I’ve participated in action scenes in other productions, this one, titled [Cleaner], stands out for me. It’s quite labor-intensive, but it’s also incredibly enjoyable because I’m a huge fan of action movies. I adore John Wick, car chases, fights, and everything that comes with them. Tomorrow, we begin a substantial fight sequence that I’m really looking forward to.

Action Master Martin Campbell Directs ‘Cleaner’ with Daisy Ridley

As stated in Quiver’s press announcement, Martin Campbell described “Cleaner” as an edge-of-your-seat thriller that stands out due to its distinctive characters and setting. A significant portion of the movie unfolds on the side of One Canada Square, high above the ground, aiming to immerse the audience in a heart-pounding, dizzying experience alongside Joey.

Campbell excels in crafting action sequences that leave you with a queasy feeling. Most recently, he directed the upcoming movie “Dirty Angels,” featuring Eva Green and Maria Bakalova. Over the years, he’s honed his skills in the action genre, with directorial credits including The Mask of Zorro, No Escape, The Foreigner, Edge of Darkness, Vertical Limit, and The Protégé. He also directed two of the best James Bond films from the last 35 years – GoldenEye and Casino Royale. Given his impressive career and Daisy Ridley’s comments about the film, Cleaner is expected to be a blockbuster.

As a devoted movie enthusiast, I recently had the privilege of reviewing Ridley Scott’s latest masterpiece, and let me tell you, it’s a cinematic tour de force. In an exclusive interview with Slash Film, Scott described the action as “brutal,” and after revisiting Martin Scorsese’s entire oeuvre during production, I can wholeheartedly agree.

Multiple attempts were made. One of his remarks read, ‘I didn’t get it that time, let’s try again.’ To an actor, he once said, ‘That was fake, literally.’ It was awe-inspiring to collaborate with someone so dedicated to perfection and unity amidst all the enjoyable chaos. Marvelous.

TJ Smith along with Larry Greenberg handled the negotiations for Quiver Distribution; on the other side, CAA Media Finance and Louis Balsan from Anton were representing the production. The movie “Cleaner” is set to hit theaters on February 21st, 2025.
