The screenplay, penned by Phil Kaufman and Sonia Chernus, is adapted from Forrest Carter’s novel “Gone to Texas”. His character, an unnamed stranger, arrives in a gold rush town in California, eventually earning the nickname “The Preacher”, as he gets embroiled in a dispute between a mining company and individual prospectors.

As a dedicated admirer, let me share that this remarkable movie is masterfully crafted by the legendary Clint Eastwood, both as its director and producer. The screenplay was skillfully penned by Michael Butler and Dennis Shryack. This stellar cast includes the inimitable Clint Eastwood himself, alongside Michael Moriarty, Carrie Snodgress, Christopher Penn, Richard Dysart, Sydney Penny, Richard Kiel, Doug McGrath, and John Russell.
