As someone who has spent countless hours in darkened theaters, witnessing the magical transformation of reels into stories that stir the soul and awaken the senses, I must say that Juror #2 is a cinematic gem that deserves far more recognition than it has received thus far.
Hi there! I’d like to inquire about something regarding the release of “Juror #2”, directed by the esteemed actor-director Clint Eastwood. The film boasts a star-studded cast, including Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette, Chris Messina, J.K. Simmons, and Kiefer Sutherland, and it promises to be a gripping courtroom thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Given its promising premise and impressive cast, I’m curious as to why the studio appears to have halted its release? It seems like audiences are eagerly awaiting this movie (myself included).
Juror #2 Has Gotten Nowhere Near The Attention It Deserves From The Studio
In October, it seemed like Warner Bros. might be quietly releasing or hiding the movie “Juror #2”. To clarify, this film, which was speculated to possibly be Eastwood’s final work, was only given a minimal release in select locations.
Initially, when the film premiered in October, Variety stated that it would only be shown in fewer than 50 theaters. However, as reported by Vulture, the film actually played in 28 cinemas during its opening weekend. To give some perspective, AMC alone operates around 900 theaters worldwide, and Regal has 425 theaters within the U.S. – figures that do not even include smaller chains or local cinemas. Considering these numbers, 28 theaters is relatively small, and at the time, there was no indication of plans to expand the release of Eastwood’s film further.
Additionally, Warner Bros (WB) failed to disclose the domestic earnings of the movie, an unusual practice. Initially, Variety pointed out that the film was missing from the studio’s For Your Consideration (FYC) page. But now, it has been included.
The film has drawn significant notice due to the fact that, as more viewers watch it, they come to appreciate just how exceptional it is.
However, I Saw Juror #2 In Theaters, And I Loved It
With the initial responses from critics towards the movie as Juror #2, it seemed evident that it was a must-watch. Given my appreciation for Clint Eastwood’s notable works and Nicholas Hoult’s top-notch performances, I anticipated enjoying it immensely.
So, I drove 45 minutes out of my way to see Juror #2, because thankfully out of the ten AMCs I live within an hour of, one was playing it. And I was right, this movie rocks.
This movie, focusing on Justin, a juror portrayed by Hoult, as he navigates jury duty and faces a tough personal predicament linked to the case he’s helping decide, is incredibly captivating. The intricate problem at the heart of the story (without giving away any spoilers) adds an element of suspense that makes this film so engaging, and Hoult’s performance in handling it is almost flawless.
Additionally, when you blend Eastwood’s exceptional directing style with the outstanding acting talents of the ensemble, it results in a truly captivating and noteworthy production. It seems that my admiration for it is shared by many others, including both critics and viewers.
I’m Not The Only One, Juror #2 Also Has An Outstanding Rotten Tomatoes Score
I’ve personally found myself quite impressed by Juror #2, after catching a glimpse of its reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Seems like it’s been making waves among the movie-watching community!
Spare a few moments to ponder these figures. With 135 professional critic evaluations, this movie’s Tomatometer rating is 93%. On the other hand, more than 250 verified audience ratings on Popcornmeter give it a score of 92%. Essentially, this means the film is undeniably fresh. So, you might be wondering why it didn’t garner attention when it first came out.
To add some reasoning to these numbers, here are a few reviews written by the fans:
- Just over halfway through and I can’t help but seeing the similarities with the classic Henry Fonda film 12 Angry men. Even some of the dialogue is the same. Really engrossed -Nigel S
- A powerful representation of one mans moral struggle to reconcile a past accident with his role as a new father and member of a jury in a life and death case. The dilemma is incredibly tense and performances captivating. -Paul
- Great movie. Definitely deserved more marketing. Will miss Clint and his talent. -Hugo G
- Juror #2 is another thought-provoking Clint Eastwood film that includes great acting, a subtle and interesting plot and leaves you thinking about the people and events depicted in the film. A moral dilemma with no easy solutions. WOW! Clint Eastwood delivers again. -midwesternmoviefan
Currently, numerous assessments from both critics and viewers note that the film certainly has flaws. Yet, it’s intriguing and enormously enjoyable, which makes it puzzling as to why it didn’t receive more recognition or support from the studio upon its premiere.
It’s great news that more people can now access “Juror #2”, as it is now available on Video On Demand (VOD) and will be streamable with a Max subscription from December 20. Here’s hoping a fresh and vast audience discovers and enjoys this courtroom thriller, as it truly deserves recognition.
