George Clooney cemented his auteur status with 2005’s “Good Night, and Good Luck.’
The drama evoked memories of Edward R. Murrow’s confrontation with Senator Joseph McCarthy during a time period now referred to as the Blacklist era. Clooney collaborated on both the script and acting for a film that garnered six Academy Award nominations, among them Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.

After the release of the movie, George Clooney’s directorial ventures seemed to take a downturn. Critics often point to films like “Leatherheads” (2008), “The Monuments Men” (2014), “Suburbicon” (2017), and “The Tender Bar” (2021) as possible reasons for this dip in success.
Currently, the actor or director is transferring the play “Good Night, and Good Luck” onto Broadway. This strategic decision is seen as a way to honor the traditional media’s legacy, as suggested by the main cast member.
Here’s what Clooney said at a New York press conference tied to the play’s arrival.
This topic resonates deeply with us, as it’s about uncovering the truth and keeping those in power accountable – something that we are passionate about, much like [the press]. We’re thrilled to be part of a production that reflects these values.
A significant number of Americans recognize that traditional media outlets are not effectively holding one political party responsible for their actions. For instance, they often overlook signs of cognitive decline in President Joe Biden, such as his recent behavior. Similarly, journalists have been hesitant to report on the Hunter Biden laptop controversy until well after the 2020 presidential election had concluded.
Even then, the coverage proved muted and ineffective. Some truths must be hidden, apparently.
The same, apparently, applies to Clooney.

In June last year, the actor shared the stage with President Biden at a fundraising event aimed at 2024. This gathering managed to raise an impressive $30 million for the President’s campaign funds.
At the gala, Clooney got an intimate perspective on Biden’s mental abilities, which went beyond just a casual event. This was not a malicious attempt by his opponents to discredit him falsely or unfairly.
It was real.
Initially, Clooney remained silent for several weeks after the fundraiser, hiding a crucial fact. It wasn’t until Biden’s poll ratings dropped significantly following his poor performance in the June 27 debate that Clooney chose to reveal details about the situation.
The actor took to the pages of The New York Times to gently push Biden off the ticket.
I have great admiration for Joe Biden, whether as a senator, vice president or president. I consider him more than just an acquaintance; he is a friend whose character and morals I trust. In the past four years, he has triumphed in numerous challenges… However, there’s one challenge he can never conquer – time. None of us can. It’s heartbreaking to acknowledge it, but the Joe Biden I met three weeks ago at the fundraiser was not the ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010 nor even the Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all saw during the debate.
If the initial debate hadn’t occurred or if Biden’s approval ratings had stayed strong, Clooney likely would have continued to keep the secret to himself.
The truth would remain out of reach for Americans who still trusted the legacy media.
Perhaps he’s not the best person to push the truth-telling element of his own production.
