CNN Original Productions is debuting a four-episode documentary series delving into the 1988 Lockerbie bombing incident involving Pan Am Flight 103.
Premiering this Sunday, February 16th at 9 p.m. Eastern Time (ET)/Pacific Time (PT) on CNN, the gripping series “Lockerbie: The Pan Am 103 Bombing” delves into the enigmatic events surrounding the devastating airline disaster, a terror attack that claimed more American lives than any other prior to September 11th. Further episodes will follow on Sunday, February 23rd at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
The series was created jointly by Mindhouse Productions, Sky Studios, and CNN Original Series.
The explosion on an airplane above Lockerbie, Scotland tragically claimed the lives of 270 individuals, among whom were 190 Americans. This narrative encompasses conversations with locals from Lockerbie and relatives of the plane’s passengers, as well as a thorough examination of various hypotheses that surfaced following the investigation. Although a verdict was confirmed in 2000, there remains uncertainty about who truly bore responsibility for this event.
Amy Entelis, executive vice president of talent at CNN Originals and creative development, stated that viewers regularly turn to CNN to uncover the personal narratives behind significant global events. The Lockerbie bombing was a worldwide concern then, and the lingering questions for the victims’ families remain relevant today. This series skillfully blends investigative journalism with deeply emotional storytelling, a style that CNN Original Series is recognized for.
The recent media resurgence of the attack has been sparked by the debut of the Peacock Original show, titled “Lockerbie: A Search for Truth,” featuring Colin Firth.
On February 16th, the CNN series will air live for those with pay TV subscriptions on the news network’s website, smart TVs, and mobile applications. From February 17th, these subscribers can also access the series on-demand.
The production of Lockerbie is overseen by Nancy Strang at Mindhouse, Poppy Dixon at Sky Studios, and Amy Entelis and Lyle Gamm for the CNN Original Series team.
