The opening eight minutes of Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 3 are captivating, sparing no emotion for either the intriguing characters or devoted fans. A fresh sneak peek unveils that a month has elapsed since Part 2’s heart-wrenching finale, and the demise of Kwon Jae-Sung (Brandon H. Lee) has left everyone in shock following the calamity at the international karate tournament, particularly for longtime adversaries, John Kreese (Martin Kove) and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio). In a recent interview (via Tudum), Josh Heald, one of the show’s three producers, discussed how the series would handle the fatal events of the Sekai Taikai within its final five episodes.
As a cinephile reflecting on the events that unfolded, I find myself delving into the minds of various characters post-Sekai Taikai. For those whose aspirations and dreams were intertwined with victory at this prestigious tournament, their thoughts are complex. Then there are individuals like Daniel, who had a deeper emotional investment in the event. On the other hand, figures such as Silver seem to have everything riding on it for less-than-noble reasons. Lastly, I can’t help but consider Johnny, who views this competition as a pivotal stepping stone for his personal growth and future.
On February 10th, a complete eight-minute sneak peek was released on Tudum for viewing. Additionally, a short 94-second preview was shared. The footage unveiled that Kreese is ridden with guilt over Kwon’s demise, while Johnny Lawrence (portrayed by Zabka) and Carmen (Vanessa Rubio) are assisting Robby (Tanner Buchanan), whose academic performance has noticeably dropped since the end of the Sekai Taikai. However, it seems that Master Kim (C.S. Lee) and Daniel LaRusso in particular are dealing with struggles that appear more profound than those of the other characters.
Daniel LaRusso Loses His Passion for Karate Following the Sekai Taikai
The grand finale of “Cobra Kai” is preparing for an epic climax as the Sekai Taikai tournament shifts to The Valley. However, the opening eight minutes of Season 6 Part 3 show two individuals deeply affected by the violent ending of the competition, and both are dealing harshly with the loss of Kwon. Master Kim of Cobra Kai, a man shrouded in mystery and danger, is driven by revenge for the death of his dojo’s star student, Kwon. On the other hand, far across in California, Daniel LaRusso from Miyagi-Do seems to have lost interest in karate, a pursuit he had dedicated his life to. In an interview, Macchio explained his character’s drastic change:
(Note: The interview is provided below)
In the interview, Macchio discussed Daniel LaRusso’s sudden departure from karate, which has been his lifelong passion:
“For the first time in my life, I don’t know if I want to do karate anymore. I feel like I’ve lost something important, and it’s not just about winning or losing a tournament. It’s about the spirit of Miyagi-Do, the values that sensei instilled in me. I thought I had found my purpose, but now I’m not so sure.”

For LaRusso, it’s about setting aside the troubling incident and cherishing the beautiful aspects of his life, as he has no power to change the past. At present, Daniel is distancing himself from karate, dedicating his time to his family, especially his daughter, wife, and the upcoming anniversary of his dealership. He appears to be diverting his attention from what’s causing him distress.
The third part of Cobra Kai Season 6 will be released exclusively on Netflix starting February 13, wrapping up the beloved series with its final five episodes. As this chapter concludes, the tale of Daniel LaRusso and his famous crane kick will carry on in cinemas. Keep an eye out for the much-anticipated collaboration between Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) in Karate Kid: Legends, set to premiere in theaters on May 30.
