Recently, the captivating series Cobra Kai drew its final chapter a few weeks back, leaving fans of the enthralling Karate Kid spin-off yearning for their favorite characters who brought martial arts back into the cool spotlight once more. The talented writers ensured that each character’s storyline concluded in a fulfilling manner; however, as the credits faded, discussions about possible spinoffs began to surface. Showrunner Jon Hurwitz has shared additional insights on potential spinoffs that may materialize shortly.
At Paleyfest, Hurwitz conversed with The Direct, and he hinted at an enticing piece of news that fans are bound to be thrilled about. Although he didn’t disclose any specific details, his remarks suggest that something is in the works which he hopes to reveal soon.
We currently have several options for what we could do, but these need to align with the preferences of our collaborators at Sony and Netflix. Among them are modern adaptations set following the events of “Cobra Kai”.
Additional prequels are under consideration, set a century ago, that fans have been anticipating. Time will tell which one fits best as a project, but we hope to reveal more details soon.
In the upcoming installment of the “Karate Kid” series, titled “Karate Kid: Legends“, Daniel LaRusso’s future is explored further following the events in the show. At this point, it remains unclear how the film will tie into the series, except that LaRusso will definitely be involved. The release date for “Karate Kid: Legends ” has been scheduled for May 30, 2025.
The Cast of ‘Cobra Kai’ Pitch Their Spinoff Ideas
The series boasts a variety of characters who might each merit a standalone sequel. Just like how Cobra Kai initially focused on Johnny Lawrence and evolved into a key part of the franchise known as the Miyagi-verse, certain stories centered around Hawk, Demetri, and Chozen could be prime candidates for their own spinoffs. However, it seems that two main characters have alternative ideas in mind.
Xolo Maridueña, the actor portraying Miguel in the show, expressed his hope for the Binary Bros to continue. He believes Jacob and Gianni were particularly deserving, and he’d enjoy watching their college years unfold, specifically at Cal Tech. What he finds amusing is the idea of them not realizing that high school isn’t about physically fighting when you argue with someone – a comedic twist on their college experience.
Ralph “Daniel LaRusso” Macchio is eagerly advocating for the revelation of Miyagi’s past: “I’d love to uncover Miyagi’s background, don’t you think? It’s being considered, but nothing definite yet. But imagine, wouldn’t it be fascinating to learn about him before we even knew him? And, by the way, I hope there’s a connection with Chozen since he’s fantastic.
No matter where the Karate Kid franchise ventures beyond Cobra Kai and Legends, it appears that the series has successfully returned to both the big and small screens, something that seemed unattainable just a decade ago.
