One of the’ most critically acclaimed films has a brand-new streaming home.
2010s’ hit movie has moved to a new streaming platform and is now available for viewing. Starting today, fans can stream the highly praised remake of the John Wayne classic on Paramount+. However, those who wish to watch the original will need to look elsewhere.
2010’s movie “True Grit,” written and directed by the Coen brothers, is a modern adaptation of Charles Portis’ 1968 novel with the same title. This film is actually a reinterpretation, as there was an earlier film based on this book which came out in 1969. Jeff Bridges portrays the iconic character, with Hailee Steinfeld making her cinematic debut as Mattie Ross. The cast also includes Matt Damon as Texas Ranger LaBoeuf, Josh Brolin as Tom Chaney, Domhnall Gleeson as Moon, and Barry Pepper as “Lucky” Ned Pepper in this western drama.
In response to her father’s heartbreaking murder by Tom Chaney, Mattie journeys to Fort Smith, Arkansas, where she encounters Rooster Cogburn. Impressed by his reputation, she proposes a generous reward for his assistance in tracking down Chaney and his gang. Throughout the movie, they face numerous adversaries, the challenging landscape of the American Midwest during the 1800s, and an escalating series of perilous situations.
True Grit Quickly Became A Fan Favorite Western Movie
When it initially hit the screens, the film garnered such widespread acclaim that it was nominated for nearly 100 significant industry awards. Out of these numerous nominations, “True Grit” managed to win a total of 20. These accolades included the 2011 BAFTA for Best Cinematography, which went to Roger Deakins, and the Critics Choice Movie Award for Best Young Actor/Actress, awarded to Steinfeld. During its original release in cinemas, it grossed over $252 million, while its production budget was just under $38 million.
