Cole Escola Returns to ‘Oh, Mary!’ on Broadway in April

Cole Escola is returning to the lead role in Oh, Mary! on Broadway.

Starting from April 8th, I’m thrilled to announce that Escola, the incredible actress who first brought Mary Todd Lincoln to life on stage, will be reprising her role. Additionally, Conrad Ricamora, our talented actor portraying Mary’s husband, and James Scully, who brings Mary’s teacher to life so vividly, will also make their comeback from the same date. Can’t wait!

As a dedicated theater enthusiast, I’ve been fortunate enough to step into Betty Gilpin’s shoes on Broadway since she took over from Escola on January 21st. Excitingly, Tituss Burgess is set to take over for three weeks starting March 18th. What an incredible lineup we have ahead!

Titled “Oh Mary!”, Escola’s play portrays Mary Todd Lincoln as an aspiring cabaret performer struggling with alcohol, unhappy with her life in the days preceding Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. Directed by Sam Pinkleton, who was nominated for a Tony Award, the production premiered on Broadway at the Lyceum Theatre on July 11, 2024, following a successful Off-Broadway run at the Lucille Lortel Theater.

Apart from Gilpin, the current cast also includes Phillip James Brannon playing Mary’s spouse, Chris Renfro portraying Mary’s teacher, Bianca Leigh as Mary’s chaperone, and Tony Macht in the role of Mary’s husband’s aide. Hannah Solow, Martin Landry, and Julian Manjerico round out the ensemble.

With Escola, Ricamora, and Scully rejoining the cast, the play will retain its original actors as we approach Tony Award nominations and move into the voting phase. The nominations are set to be revealed on May 1, and the ceremony itself is scheduled for June 8. Tickets can currently be purchased up until June 28, 2025.

Hey there! I just got word that a show called “Oh, Mary!” is being put up on Broadway by the team of Kevin McCollum, Lucas McMahon, Mike Lavoie, and Carlee Briglia. Can’t wait to see it!
