50th Anniversary Special of SNL aired last Sunday, and it’s fair to say that the event was nothing short of spectacular. A multitude of celebrities graced Studio 8H for this highly anticipated spectacle, making it one of the most significant TV events on the 2025 schedule so far. The humor was also thick in the air, with Colin Jost serving up a witty remark or two. His joke targeted rapper Sean “P. Diddy” Combs and was dropped during an exclusive installment of Weekend Update, which also welcomed back veteran host Seth Meyers.
During the Weekend Update segment earlier on, Colin Jost acknowledged the presence of numerous renowned past hosts and musicians. He humorously implied that some people had to watch from Studio 8G and even the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. A picture of Diddy then appeared, causing the audience to react with a chorus of “Oh’s”. In response, Jost playfully said, “Ah, you attended the parties, I see.” You can watch this moment and more from the segment in the video below:
Back in September 2024, Sean Combs was taken into custody following investigations into sex-trafficking, triggered by searches of his residences. He’s currently detained and dealing with numerous federal charges as well as multiple lawsuits. The media has been buzzing about Diddy’s infamous parties, often referred to as “Freak Offs.” Interestingly, Combs has links to the history of Saturday Night Live; he graced the stage on two occasions – once solo in 1998 and another time with Diddy-Dirty Money in 2010.
Besides the P. Diddy joke being memorable, there were other standout moments during this version of Weekend Update. It was delightful to see Seth Meyers back since he previously hosted from 2006 to 2014. Notably, Bill Murray made an appearance for a funny skit where he ranked the top anchors in the segment’s history. Interestingly, his Colin Jost-less Top 10 list placed his brother Brian Doyle-Murray at No. 1.

As a cinephile, I found myself laughing heartily during the latest episode of Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update. A guest star casually slipped in a witty jab about Scarlett Johansson’s Marvel earnings, and Colin Jost swiftly brought the segment to an end with a grin that spoke volumes. It was a moment that had me rolling!
Additionally, not only were some of the most memorable Weekend Update guests present for the celebration, but Cecily Strong’s character, The Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started A Conversation With At A Party, was among them. Notably, she appeared to be pregnant, which mirrored Strong’s real-life pregnancy. In a comical twist, it was announced that the father of her child was none other than the returning Drunk Uncle, portrayed by Bobby Moynihan. To add to the excitement, Vanessa Bayer and Fred Armisen made their return as their beloved recurring characters, this time depicting childhood friends of Lorne Michaels.
In this instance, everyone was performing at their absolute best, and some top-notch performers were selected to take part. It’s worth noting that Bobby Moynihan was present, as Colin Jost created and is fond of the Drunk Uncle character. To make things even better, an appearance by Bill Hader’s Stefon or a quick witty exchange between Michael Che and Colin Jost would have been the cherry on top for this segment of the special.
I won’t dispute what fans got, and it’s only fair to give a round of applause to everyone who helped pull off this extraordinary Weekend Update. Regarding the Diddy joke specifically, I wouldn’t be shocked if other jokes are directed at the rapper in the future as his court cases go on.
