Collina Strada SS25 Reminds Us – Now, More than Ever - To Touch Grass

As a connoisseur of fashion with a soft spot for sustainability and a penchant for all things whimsical, I must say that Collina Strada‘s Spring/Summer 2025 showcase was an absolute delight! The East Village’s Marble Cemetery served as the perfect backdrop for Hillary Taymour’s vision of Mother Earth-inspired femininity.

For thirty minutes in the East Village’s Marble Cemetary, the perils of the outside world didn’t exist and, instead, all eyes were on the captivating, colorful and climate-conscious Collina Strada Spring/Summer 2025 showcase.

Hillary Taymour, the Creative Director, explained that the current world feels like a battlefield in many aspects. She suggested that we can all find a peaceful center by connecting with nature, just as the popular meme ‘touch grass’ implies. This connection is what inspired her for the design of the latest collection.

Taymour found the idea of ‘Mother Earth’ deeply inspiring,” he went on to explain, as he imagined a design that exuded a soft, blooming femininity throughout the entire production.

Down the runway, light and airy pieces floated gracefully while the music transported everyone to another realm. A fresh take on The Chords’ classic single “Sh-Boom” titled “Life could be green,” a revamped version of the Beach Boys’ “Vegetables,” and an original composition called “World of Collina Strada” filled the air, playing as background music.

Cameos originated from the local icon known as The Green Lady of Brooklyn, along with eco-activist Mara Hoffman. (Paraphrased)

Just as Taymour’s work is known for, the finer points are what make it stand out; some models showcased long hair dyed green at the ends, while others carried remnants of grass on their hemlines. The upcoming fashion trends included a promising collaboration with Puma sneakers, expected to launch around next spring, featuring floral cutouts. Additionally, Sperry Topsiders were seen covered in turf, and for the first time, Collina Strada sneaker boots made an appearance on the line.

Taymour aimed to create a peaceful atmosphere by filtering out the clamor of news, instead choosing to express calm assurance. This assembly reflects his goal – understated but elegant, modest yet thoughtful.

Despite the weighty news headlines, a fashion show might seem inconsequential, like one blade of grass in a vast expanse. However, when these seemingly trivial delights – such as a wide-brimmed hat or rustling sleeves, the whispering wind through trees – converge, they generate something significant: an exquisite, verdant, and thriving meadow. This event serves as our small sanctuary. It encourages us to step away from the distractions arising from our devices and rekindle connections with what truly matters. Find your center. Feel the earth beneath you.
