Colman Domingo Credits ‘Euphoria’ for Becoming a Heartthrob at the “Ripe Old Age of 54”

As a devoted fan of Colman Domingo‘s captivating performances, it’s been an absolute delight to witness his metamorphosis into a timeless heartthrob, particularly through his role as Ali on Euphoria. His ability to embody such a multifaceted character has not only resonated with the younger generation but also left us all spellbound.

Colman Domingo is astonished that, at the age of 54, he’s been labeled as a heartthrob, largely due to his performance in the show “Euphoria.”

The actor who won an Emmy and portrays Rue’s (Zendaya) sponsor Ali on the popular HBO show, has shared insights about the unexpected interest he’s been getting from a younger audience in a conversation with Jessica Shaw on SiriusXM’s talk show, The Spotlight.

“Domingo exclaimed, ‘It’s truly astonishing!’ They responded with a mix of excitement, saying, ‘Oh my goodness, Ali!’ What’s particularly heartwarming is that they often regard him as a mentor, a figure of wisdom, even a father figure or counselor.”

However, the Rustin star admitted he’s also experienced some wilder run-ins with younger fans.

“Once upon the 405 freeway in Los Angeles, my husband and I were traveling when a cluster of young ladies seemed to be staring at us. He asked, ‘Are those girls checking you out? Is there a problem?’ I wasn’t sure, but they didn’t stop looking. Eventually, I decided to wave, and suddenly, I could hear screams. It turns out, I’m still a charmer at 54 years old.”

As a fan, I can’t help but exclaim with a hearty chuckle: “It has come to pass!” I must admit, I never imagined this moment would arrive, but here it is, unfolding at the venerable age of 54. To be honest, as long as it happened during my lifetime, that’s all that truly matters, doesn’t it?

In the year 2022, the actor from ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ earned an Emmy Award in the category of best guest actor in a drama series. This recognition was given for his exceptional portrayal of the character Ali on the series ‘Euphoria’.

On the horizon, Domingo will once again embody his character for the upcoming season three of the drama created by Sam Levinson, which is expected to start filming in January 2025. However, there’s been a lingering doubt among fans about whether or not we’ll get to see this new season, given that the HBO series has faced numerous hardships and heartaches since its second season debuted in 2022.

In the previous year, Domingo spoke out against speculations labeling the show “Euphoria” as a “toxic set,” refuting allegations from a 2022 article in The Daily Beast.

“He shared with The Independent in November 2023 that working in television involves extended hours, often reaching up to 14 hours per day. Preparation work also doesn’t stop at the end of the day, so it requires a structured lifestyle. Many young actors might find this level of dedication and work ethic challenging.”

As a seasoned gamer with 32 years under my belt, I’ve learned the value of grit and dedication. When rumors started circulating about me – let’s call them ‘reports’, but they felt more like whispers – I couldn’t help but think, “From where does this originate? That’s just another day on the job.” Being a professional means staying focused and not letting unsubstantiated gossip distract from the task at hand.
