It turns out that there were discussions about Colman Domingo joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the stories suggesting he would replace Jonathan Majors as the formidable antagonist Kang may have been slightly exaggerated.

Following his roles in “Loki” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”, Majors was slated to become the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s impending major antagonist. Despite the portrayal of Kang in the Ant-Man sequel that turned him into a figure of ridicule, the MCU still aimed to develop this villain as an adversary worthy of the Avengers. However, when Majors was convicted for assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, Disney severed ties with the actor. This event sparked widespread speculation about Marvel’s plans to proceed without Majors, and whispers started circulating that the studio might recast Kang, potentially with Colman Domingo.

As a die-hard film fan, I eagerly tuned into the Happy Sad Confused podcast for an exclusive chat with Josh Horowitz. During this engaging conversation, Domingo shed some light on the persistent rumors about his potential role in one of my favorite franchises, which were surprisingly not entirely baseless.

“After a while,” he mused, “when it kept popping up in the media and social platforms like Twitter, I found myself asking, ‘Hold on, is this actually true? Is there talk about me taking over Kang’s role?'” This intense buzz around him had been circulating for quite some time.

However, Domingo made it clear that he was never in direct negotiations to replace the talented Majors, and even expressed his reluctance to step into a character previously played by another actor, stating: “To be honest, I wouldn’t want to take over a role from someone else.” This candid admission added an interesting layer to the ongoing speculation surrounding this much-loved franchise.

There were discussions about me joining Marvel in some capacity, so we arranged a face-to-face meeting to explore this possibility. During our conversation, we addressed the rumors surrounding Kang, and I expressed my desire to secure a role for myself, regardless of what it might be. However, something didn’t sit well with me about potentially replacing someone else. Instead, I wanted to create something new and unique that would be mine from the ground up.

It’s unknown if Marvel Studios ever contemplated swapping Jonathan Majors for Colman Domingo, but from Domingo’s perspective, such a discussion never occurred. The two-time Academy Award winner clarified further that although the Kang rumors were unfounded, he remains eager to join the MCU and is actively pursuing opportunities within it, finally adding that he wants to be a part of this universe.

There’s speculation about which Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) character Colman Domingo might play in future roles, given his openness to joining the MCU. Fans are particularly hopeful that he could take on the role of Blade, currently played by Mahershala Ali. However, it’s worth noting that the Blade movie has faced multiple setbacks and there’s uncertainty about whether it will eventually be released.

Previously, Domingo has lent his voice to Marvel’s world in the animated series “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” portraying Norman Osborn. Yet, Domingo acknowledges that this is not enough for him, as he yearns to take on a live-action role. Given the growing popularity of the show, many fans are advocating for Domingo to assume the part of Norman Osborn, should the Green Goblin ever be introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe – possibly in the upcoming “Spider-Man 4.
