Complete the mine puzzle in God of War Ragnarok with the Leviathan axe

As a seasoned Viking warrior who’s battled countless mythical beasts and navigated treacherous realms, I must say that the mine puzzle in God of War Ragnarok was a refreshing challenge. It wasn’t just about brute force or quick reflexes; it required some good old-fashioned Viking ingenuity!

The mine puzzle can be a bit of a roadblock to progress during your search for Tyr. God of War Ragnarok can be a bit pushy with hints during puzzles, but sometimes the logic seems to go out the window.

The mine puzzle is a great example of this, where the solution might not make a lot of sense to everyone. Here is what you need to know to finish it.

Where is the mine puzzle?

In my experience, while exploring the mine during my initial visit to Svartalfheim, I encountered a unique puzzle that presents itself specifically within the Applecore section.

In this scenario, you’re exploring the mine in search of Tyr. After numerous detours and misleading conclusions, you’ll rappel down a rope and find yourself in a spacious chamber filled with wheels and water basins everywhere.

To help Atreus reach a ledge on the left side of the room, you need to figure out how to move him there. Once atop the ledge, he’ll discover a lever that will cause ore to drop. Your mission is to strategize and arrange all the elements in order to make it across the room.

How to solve the mine puzzle in God of War Ragnarok

So far, you’ve tackled several puzzles requiring you to shut off the water supply, and then use it to set wheels in motion.

Inside the mine, you’ll encounter puzzles that demonstrate an interesting fact: the Leviathan axe can freeze not only the ends of water troughs, but also their midsections, causing the water to spill over the sides. This key aspect of the puzzle has a clever twist to it.

In the given room, there are two water-filled troughs that continuously flow with water. Each trough has a spot where the water can freeze and trickle over a rotating wheel. For the progression, it’s essential that these two wheels start spinning simultaneously.

On the left side, there’s someone who lowers a ladder (or something that serves as a reachable platform), while on the right, there’s another person who raises an anchor point (or handle) that you can hold onto to ascend and reach the elevator.

It’s impossible to keep two items frozen simultaneously. Giving back the Leviathan axe will thaw whatever you previously froze.

Here’s where the ore enters the picture. The logic might seem odd, but you should:

When the three mineral pieces reach the chilly section, they’ll harden and become solid, allowing you to retrieve the axe without halting the rotation of the wheel.

Following that, **take the axe and strike it against the water source on your right side to reveal a grappling point**. Use this to swing across to the lift. Once there, spin around and instruct Atreus to fire at the ore. This will shatter it, restarting the water flow and making the lift retract to its initial position, bringing Kratos back onto it. With this, the puzzle is solved and our journey through the mine resumes.
