As a die-hard fan of Conan O’Brien, I must say that his audacious attempt to secure a role in The White Lotus is nothing short of hilarious and admirable! Who else but Conan would casually pitch himself as a male gigolo to creator Mike White over a meal in Bangkok? It’s this kind of audacity and unapologetic humor that has made him an icon in the entertainment industry.
Conan O’Brien was hoping to get in on the action in season three of The White Lotus.
In a recent episode of his podcast “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend,” the comedian disclosed that approximately a year ago in Bangkok, Thailand, he personally proposed himself as a character to the creator of the show, Mike White, following an encounter between them.
“Prior to the filming of ‘The White Lotus’, I happened to meet Mike White in a restaurant,” O’Brien shared with season three actor Walter Goggins. “We started talking since we knew each other slightly before and he’s quite humorous and laid-back. I asked him, ‘So, are you heading to Thailand for the next season of ‘The White Lotus’, right?’ To which he replied, ‘Yes.’ And I said, ‘I was there myself, it was fantastic! I made a lot of friends.'”
Later on, O’Brien proposed his role, saying, “I expressed my readiness if there’s a suitable part for me.” Yet, White held a unique concept in his thoughts instead.
In our chat, he casually mentioned, “You see, there’s quite a bit of sex work going on over there,” he told me. To which I responded, “Why not me? I could take on the role of a high-priced escort or something similar.”
As Goggins, along with co-hosts Sona Movsesian and Matt Gourley burst into laughter, the Fallout actor offered supportive advice to the comedian: “Absolutely, you can do it. I truly believe you can accomplish it.”
“You reckon I might pull off that role, or perhaps even become a genuine gigolo?,” O’Brien joked to which Goggins replied, “I believe you could manage both. I think you could handle the role and possibly embody such a persona in reality.”
The next chapter of the critically acclaimed HBO series takes place at a Thai resort, where it delves into the lives of different guests and staff members over a week’s time. Alongside Goggins, the cast includes Natasha Rothwell, Carrie Coon, Scott Glenn, Leslie Bibb, Michelle Monaghan, Parker Posey, Blackpink member Lisa, and others.
Previously, Goggins revealed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that he was sworn to secrecy regarding the upcoming season’s plot. “I can’t disclose the storyline for the character I’m portraying as I believe Mike White might retaliate if we were to spoil it,” he explained.
The White Lotus season three is slated to premiere in 2025.
