As a devoted comic book enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the vibrant world of Marvel, I am beyond excited about the upcoming developments in the Spider-Man universe!
For quite some time now, Spider-Man has remained Marvel’s most beloved superhero. However, his popularity dipped slightly when the Marvel Cinematic Universe gave screen time to previously overlooked Avengers members. This trend reversed once the issues surrounding film rights were resolved. Today, both Marvel Studios and Sony enjoy a piece of the Spider-Man pie, with the former taking the larger share. In accordance with this arrangement, more Spider-Man films and series have been greenlit.
It would be fantastic if there was a third movie starring Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man or a fight between Spidey (Maguire) and Spidey (Andrew Garfield). However, that’s not in the works right now. Instead, Tom Holland’s portrayal of the character is key to Phase Six, so the spotlight remains on him. Still, Miles Morales is making waves, and we might soon witness him joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Currently, we’re focusing solely on the projects within our production line that center around variations of the well-known Marvel superhero, excluding those related to his adversaries or companions.
‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’
January 2025
In the movie “Far From Home”, Peter Parker, also known as Spider-Man, says, “I’m just your local Spidey guy, but don’t let that fool you,” when Nick Fury assigns him to battle the Elementals. He then quips back, “Come on now! You’ve been to space, so don’t act like I’m some kind of amateur!
It’s one of the funniest exchanges in the MCU, and Fury is justified in pointing out Spider-Man’s cowardice, but there was truly a time when Peter was just a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man takes us back there. Created by Jeff Tramell, the series — intended to be the 12th TV installment of the MCU — explores Peter’s origin story in an alternate timeline where Norman Osborn is his mentor instead of Tony Stark.
Marvel’s ‘Smallville’?
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans didn’t get to witness the origin story of Spider-Man. Instead, we were plunged straight into the action at the Battle of Leipzig-Halle Airport in Captain America: Civil War, and things just got more thrilling from there. Although we haven’t been given a backstory for Tom Holland’s portrayal of Spider-Man, the idea of having a television series similar to Smallville for Spider-Man still sounds exciting.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that several friends of Spider-Man are expected to join in. According to Variety, Daredevil is set to make a guest appearance. His presence could certainly spark curiosity and encourage viewers to tune in.
‘Spider-Man 4’
July 2026
The working title for Tom Holland’s fourth Spider-Man film hasn’t been officially announced yet. For now, the media is just speculating with fictitious titles, but it’s certain that the word “home” will be included in the final title.
The most recent news about the movie originated from an interview by Tom Holland on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” In this chat, he disclosed that filming will start in Summer 2025. Even though we’re still quite a ways off from its release, Marvel Studios has a track record of working swiftly.
Topping the Previous Film will be a Monumental Task
The team responsible for directing and scripting Spider-Man 4 has a challenging task ahead as surpassing the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home won’t be straightforward. While Phase Five had more flops than triumphs, Spider-Man stood out by incorporating different Spider-Men from across the multiverse, thus inviting actors from the initial Sony films to make an appearance. Seeing them all together is nothing short of exhilarating, so the fourth movie will need to deliver something even more spectacular. The inclusion of Deadpool could certainly be a turning point.
‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’
Undisclosed Release Date
Critics generally consider “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” to be the top Spider-Man movie in production so far, with its sequel, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”, coming closely behind. Notably, the first film bagged an Oscar for Best Animated Film, while the second was nominated for the same category.
With the remarkable success of the previous films, it was only inevitable that another sequel would follow. Entitled “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse“, this upcoming movie doesn’t have a confirmed release date as of now. However, actor Brian Tyree Henry has confidently shared with Deadline (on X) that the project is currently being developed, stating that it’s “in the works.
Miles Morales’ World is More Detailed
Although the Spider-Man series has been a significant money maker for Sony, there’s been a noticeable delay in releasing Spider-Verse films. The latest installment, “Across the Spider-Verse,” was released five years after the original, and fans may face another long wait. However, given the intricate nature of Miles Morales’ world, this strategy seems reasonable.
In every movie, there are numerous essential characters, which means crafting plots and character arcs needs the greatest attention to detail. This also applies to the animation process. It’s important to be patient during this phase, as history has shown us that with diligence, everything will undoubtedly come together beautifully, especially considering the past successes of these films.
‘Spider-Man Noir’
Undisclosed Release Date
Following his role as Superman slipping away, Nicolas Cage is now poised to take on the part of an alternate Spider-Man in MGM+’s “Spider-Man: Noir.” This series, set during the Great Depression in New York City, draws inspiration from the Marvel Noir universe’s portrayal of the character (Earth-90214), which was initially presented in “Spider-Man: Noir #1” (February 2009).
In this upcoming role, we’ll see Andrew Garfield reprise his role as Spider-Man, having previously depicted the character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. If the series follows the pattern of the comics, it promises to be a truly memorable experience.
Spider-Man Noir Fights Mob Bosses and the Nazis in the Comics
In the comic books, Spider-Man Noir leads a bustling life, busier than Peter Parker has ever known. He’s constantly battling adversaries such as Adrian Toomes, the cannibal, Norma Osborne, the mob boss, and even the Gestapo. Unlike Peter, this Spider-Man doesn’t adhere to a “No-Kill” policy, but he only resorts to lethal force in self-defense. His preferred weapon is a 45-caliber pistol.
It’s likely that viewers will encounter the same Spider-Man Noir character that Cage voiced in “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”. This version of the character speaks with a dialogue reminiscent of classic 1930s film noir actors, such as James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, and Edward G. Robinson, mimicking their distinctive Transatlantic accent. We hope to see more of this portrayal in the future.
Live-Action Miles Morales Movie
Undisclosed Release Date
In the movie “No Way Home”, Electro, played by Jamie Foxx, remarks, “Somewhere out there, there must be a black Spider-Man.” And it seems that fans could indeed witness this character. The story of Miles Morales may continue beyond the animated film “Beyond the Spider-Verse” and make its way onto the big screen.
Initial news about the project surfaced through Amy Pascal’s announcement in a Variety article, indicating that a live-action film featuring Miles was under development. Later, Kevin Feige shared exciting news with fans on Omelete, stating: [The project has progressed and] a more promising update is now available regarding the film.
In simple terms, “Miles Morales is set to feature in the upcoming Spider-Verse film, currently being made. I’m looking forward to seeing him join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for real soon after that.
That sounds fantastic! However, I’m a bit unclear about one thing: Will the live-action MCU version of Spider-Man be based on the characters from the Spider-Verse films, or will there be a fresh start with a new storyline?
Miles Morales’ Arrival in the MCU Will Create a Path for Handover
Just as Tony Stark (Iron Man) and Steve Rogers (Captain America) eventually passed their roles to others in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it’s likely that Peter Parker won’t be a mainstay forever either. Given the growing popularity of Miles Morales, he seems like an ideal candidate to take on the role when the time comes, as fans are already familiar with his character and eagerly anticipate his potential debut.
Inquired about his opinion regarding the possibility or absence of him landing the live-action role, Miles Morales voice actor, Shameik Moore, delivered a tactful, “with great power comes great responsibility”-style discourse.
As a movie-goer, I often find myself pondering over storylines where fate seems to play a significant role. It’s as if each character has a unique mission, a duty that’s been carefully assigned to them. And somehow, this assignment never falls into the wrong hands – it always fits perfectly with who they are and what they’re meant to become. In a way, it feels like everything is orchestrated for a purpose, destined to unfold just as it should.
Despite his willingness to hand over, he sure deserves the part. For now, fingers remain crossed.
