As a seasoned fashion enthusiast who’s been around the block more times than I care to count, let me tell you, the Zalando x adidas Originals event in Berlin was nothing short of extraordinary! The fusion of style, art, and dance was a breath of fresh air amidst the monotony of runway shows.
Amidst the bustling fashion month, Zalando and adidas Originals teamed up in Berlin to present an innovative showcase for their new sportswear collection. By merging style, art, and dance within a single venue, they aimed to animate the pieces through diverse modes of expression.
As I stepped into the venue, I got a tantalizing glimpse of what lay ahead. Arranged on a pristine canvas were intricate heat maps, a visual representation of motion, and more notably, clusters of people dancing together. This event, aligned with adidas Originals’ theme for this season: “Connected through culture, united in movement,” was all about an interdisciplinary live performance. The concept of “Immersion” aimed to bridge the gap between viewers like me and the talented Awake Crew performers, creating a shared experience that transcended the boundaries of the stage.
A select gathering of forty individuals made their way to an immersive happening taking place at Peres Projects in Berlin. Situated right in the heart of the city, this venue, usually functioning as an art gallery, was transformed into a pristine canvas. Upon arrival, guests were warmly welcomed by a stunning culinary landscape spread out on a table sculpted by Table Farrah. This display took cues from the adidas Originals Fall/Winter 2024 color scheme, introducing bursts of vivid blue and yellow to the heart of the space.
In no time, a soothing ambiance filled the air and everyone’s gaze shifted towards the primary performance area. As spectators congregated, the members of Awakecrew assembled in the center under the guidance of their founder and choreographer Roman Varava. Clad in garments from their own line, they amplified the emotive nature of their movements as a troupe by skillfully utilizing the loose shapes of shorts, track jackets, and shirts.
In this context, The contemporary dance was showcased using different three-striped sneakers such as the stylish SL72, shiny Country OG, and uniformly colored Taekwondo. Each model offered a minimalistic design that encouraged unrestricted self-expression. Following the live act, the dancers departed from the studio, giving space for attendees to fill up the venue and carry on networking with the background of the pulsating music beat and an abundance of refreshments.
