Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is widely recognized as one of India’s top talents in cinema. Currently, he’s preparing for the premiere of his OTT film titled Costao. Director Sejal Shah has recently disclosed details about his casting. Contrary to popular belief, she didn’t select him because he resembled the character; instead, it was due to his exceptional acting skills that made her choose Nawazuddin for this role.

During a chat with IANS, Sejal Shah explained her decision to cast Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the lead in her film, Costao. She clarified that while there is a strong physical and personal resemblance between Nawazuddin and the character Costao, this was not the primary reason for her choice. Instead, she had always believed that Nawazuddin was the ideal actor to bring Costao to life since the early stages of filmmaking.

Sejal elaborated on the character by stating that Costao deviated from the conventional notion of a hero. She pointed out his intricate and multifaceted nature, indicating the necessity for an actor capable of managing substantial shifts in character.

The filmmaker praised Nawazuddin, stating, “Nawaz’s exceptional skill is beyond doubt, yet what truly sets him apart is his knack for imbuing every scene with raw power, subtle elegance, and genuine refinement. He embodied the character so seamlessly that it never appeared as a caricature.” In conclusion, Sejal mentioned that she had been eager to create this movie precisely because only Nawaz could deliver such a compelling performance.

The trailer for the film “Costao” was unveiled, revealing its release date of May 1st. The post captioned: “This tale chronicles a true hero, a Customs Officer who dismantled a vast criminal network. This isn’t merely a battle; it’s a legacy etched in sacrifice. #Costao Trailer Now Available! #Costao debuts on May 1st, exclusively on #ZEE5.

The film, Costao, draws inspiration from the life of Mr. Costao Fernandes, a customs officer residing in Goa. Alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui, this impressive cast also features Priya Bapat, Kishore Kumar Huli, Gagan Dev Riar, and Hussain Dalal among others.

The movie is slated to debut on ZEE5 from May 1, 2025, with Sejal Shah as the director and Vinod Bhanushali, Kamlesh Bhanushali, Bhavesh Mandalia, Sejal Shah, Shyam Sunder, and Faizuddin Siddiqui serving as producers.
