Craig Green Reimagines the ECCO.kollektive Joke Silhouette in Latest Collaboration

This season, Craig Green collaborates with ECCO.kollektive, challenging traditional leatherwork boundaries. At his Spring/Summer 2025 show in London last year, this partnership unveiled new heights by reinventing, dismantling, and rebuilding footwear designs. The result transcends typical footwear forms through innovative engineering, deconstruction, and reconstruction.

Through its collaborative platform, ECCO.kollektive, ECCO has broadened its influence by launching a partnership with Craig Green. This collaboration showcases Green’s expert and groundbreaking design aesthetic on the ECCO Joke silhouette. By working closely with the ECCO Leather Atelier, Green redesigned the entire shoe into more dynamic layered jacket-like structures that emphasize movement. The leather was meticulously reconstructed to create exoskeletons, allowing Green to innovate the ECCO Joke shoe using this new material.

In the late 1970s, a vintage silhouette called “The Joke” was revamped by designer Craig Green. By blending ECCO’s advanced material with his deconstructive design approach, Green managed to redefine the Joke’s aesthetic for modern times while keeping it functional. In his own words, “We aimed to thoughtfully push the boundaries of the original Joke design to create something both visionary and functional.”

Using ECCO’s Apparition Leather—a flexible yet transparent material—and combining it with a suede that is 15 times stronger than steel for added strength, Green has reinvented The Joke FSDX, APRITN, CONCEPT, and Pull On designs. These shoes are available now on HBX, showcasing various leather combinations and color blocking techniques by Craig Green.
