As a long-time horror enthusiast who’s witnessed the evolution of fearsome creatures on the silver screen, I can’t help but feel an exhilarating thrill at the news of Crawl 2. Having grown up with Alexandre Aja’s chilling masterpieces like High Tension and The Hills Have Eyes remake, it’s a delight to see him return to the director’s chair for this sequel.
Paramount Pictures is crawling back for more.
The production team is currently working hard on the follow-up of their 2019 horror film ‘Crawl’, featuring terrifying gators, and they are planning to start filming in Europe this coming autumn.
Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan, who wrote the chilling “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension” and the time-twisting “Project Almanac”, are currently working on the screenplay.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the horror maestro, Alexandre Aja, who gave us the chills in the first installment, is returning to direct once again. Interestingly, he’s not just the director but also a producer, alongside Craig Flores and the legendary Sam Raimi, who were all part of the team behind the original film.
In the film titled “Crawl,” written by Michael and Shawn Rasmussen, Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper portray a father-daughter pair who become stranded in a Florida residence while being pursued by not one, but three formidable alligators during a Category 5 hurricane. This cinematic thriller proved to be lucrative for Paramount, earning $91.5 million against a production budget of less than $14 million.
The second installment, referred to as Crawl 2, is expected to introduce a fresh cast and a different setting – the gritty urban perils of New York City, as reported by our sources.
Gregory Levasseur and Zainab Azizi will executive produce.
Alex first gained recognition with the French horror film “High Tension” and subsequently made his U.S. studio debut with the gripping 2006 remake of Wes Craven’s “The Hills Have Eyes.” Other projects under his belt include the extravagantly outrageous “Piranha 3D,” as well as “Horns,” a film adaptation of Joe Hill’s novel, which featured Daniel Radcliffe and Juno Temple in the lead roles.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve been fortunate enough to be involved in some exciting projects within our local community. I’ve collaborated with Paramount and Original Films on a yet-to-be-titled horror movie that originates from a series of chilling TikTok videos, as well as the adaptation of “Every House Is Haunted” for Netflix. The masterful Corin Hardy will be at the helm for this one!
Aja, along with the scribes, is represented by William Morris Endeavor (WME). Moreover, Aja is also represented by Industry Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson. On the other hand, Deutschman and Pagan are also represented by Underground and Frankfurt Kurnit.
