As a die-hard fan of gripping crime dramas, I can hardly contain my excitement over Peacock‘s latest offering, M.I.A., penned by none other than the prolific Bill Dubuque, co-creator of the critically acclaimed series Ozark. With a life experience that has taken him from being a recruitment hunter to a successful screenwriter, Dubuque’s knack for storytelling, particularly when it comes to family dynamics and the American Dream, is second to none.
The crime thriller titled “M.I.A.” penned and overseen by one of the creators of “Ozark,” Bill Dubuque, has received a direct-to-series commission from Peacock.
Etta Tiger Jonze’s upcoming TV show, set in South Florida, follows a family involved in drug trafficking that MRC is producing. However, after her own family is brutally murdered, Etta sets out to find justice for their deaths and builds a new family along the way. This quest transforms Etta from a powerless orphan into the dominant criminal figure of South Florida, known as the Queenpin.
Karen Campbell will be in charge of producing and managing M.I.A, while Stefano Sollima will take on directing duties and also serve as an executive producer. Previously, Sollima was responsible for creating and directing the series ZeroZeroZero, and for serving as both showrunner and director of the popular Italian series Gomorrah.
The series Ozark garnered 45 Emmy nominations and took home four awards, while also receiving accolades from the Golden Globes, Writers Guild of America, Screen Actors Guild, and Directors Guild of America.
Just like the plot of M.I.A., Ozark revolved around themes of family and the pursuit of the American Dream. The series featured performances by Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, Sofia Hublitz, Skylar Gaertner, and Julia Garner. Prior to his work in screenwriting, co-creator Dubuque had a career as a recruitment hunter.
I penned the films “The Accountant,” starring Ben Affleck, and “The Judge,” featuring Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall in prominent roles.
MRC is involved in creating shows like “Poker Face” from Peacock, as well as productions by T-Street’s Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman, and Natasha Lyonne’s Animal Pictures. These include the popular comedy “Ted”, and both of these series have been commissioned for a second season on Peacock.
As a gamer, I’m fortunate to be managed by three top-tier talent agencies: Brillstein Entertainment Partners, who guide my career path, and the esteemed CAA, representing both Dubuque and Campbell in theirs as well. It’s a winning team, if you ask me!
